Renewal

(This isn't supposed to be poetry, it's just what I was thinking about.)

I had a thought about renewal tonight
it's not so hard to understand
except, we all need to know what pushes our own buttons I guess?
some things make us fall in love again and again
for me, it's music
I can become obsessed with compositions
I'll practice that same Chopin etude or Mozart Concerto for a long time
to get it just the way I want it
and then I keep it as a favorite,
if it's the right piece, I don't get bored
I love those pieces more everyday
as they get better, as they get more comfortable
as I get more fluid and quick,
I continue to be interested and inspired
music lights me up that way
it sweeps me up
it lifts my spirit
I fall in love with it and it keeps me coming back!
if everyone could find that thing or activity for themselves
we'd have more joyful people around don't you think?
and what about people as kindling?
certainly, there are people who affect us like this.
those are the ones we need.
those folks who re-light us
then there's a flame over and over

that's what we all need
