Been scowering the porch for years and can't recall much love for unemployable.

Has almost everything I love bout this band...

-groovy riff
-great drum work by matt...love the high hat use
-awesome lyrics
-background vocals(especially with matt)
-great bass line at the end

Only thing missing is a rip roaring solo from mike.

Where's the love???

  • I love this song. That and Marker in the Sand are my favorite off of Avacado.

Definitely one of the more underrated songs. Lyrics, energy, groove- I love it! Really would love to hear this live someday!

Never cared much for this song and still don't. Low point on a great record ( my opinion ). Great lyrics ? No. One song away from a perfect record.
  • VERY underrated album. This disc marked the return of PJ for me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy binaural and riot act. However, IMO, this is Yield 2 for me.

The band creates their best music when their pissed. We all know what they thought of the Bush era!

  • yeah, I don't get why Avocado is on the bottom of so many people's album favourite list. It's one of my tops!

This is my least favorite PJ song. Why? Because every time I hear it I am reminded of Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA." I am old enough that I can remember when that song was in constant rotation everywhere, and I absolutely hated it -- still do. I cannot enjoy any song that reminds me of "Born in the USA." I really like the rest of "Avocado," though.

"Gets up, lights a cigarette he's grown to hate
Thinking if he can't sleep, how will he ever dream?"
How a band can put that kind of weight into
    2 lines is mind-blowing.
    Cheers.

I think the problem with this song is it was leaked just after World Wide Suicide. It came out a few weeks(?) I think before the album and by the time the album dropped it was already an "old" song. If not for that I think the song would have been a suprise hit.
  • how is it remotely similar? I don't hear that at all.

I think it's the vocals; something about the way Ed sings this song reminds me of Bruce. I don't know if I can explain it any better than that; this song just makes the "Bruce" neuron in my brain fire, and I don't like it when that happens.

Love this song best version is on San Francisco 06 i believe it might be night 3 .

But Stone really has to ripp the riff to make it sound great live and this version he does he rips the riff so good ... :)

Oh and i don't hear Bruce at all it's not even close ..

I can definitely hear the similarities, mainly with the main riff and vocals, the rest, not so much.

Lots of love here! I think its one of the "gems" on S/T.

(I like to break the songs down into "gems", "rhinestones" "dogs" and "lost". "Lost" is usually reserved for bizarro stuff like Stupid Mop, Red Dot and some of the hidden things after the last song on Yield and Binaural. So many good songs on Lost Dogs that could have better occupied that "lost" CD space, IMO...)

This was one of my least favorites at first, but it has grown on me since then. It still is one of of my least favorites off that album though. I guess I just like it better than I did.

May be true that you didn't like it because you heard it early, however, I am positive that it was the b side to WWS single.

With your theory, did you not like WWS then? It was released before the album came out? Just wondering...

Lots of love for Unemployable! I reckon it's a totally underated song. 8-)

When that album first came out, I just thought it was OK. But when I saw it live in Melbourne 06 for the first time I was sold. :geek:

Still love it heaps. Love to see it live. Wanna see it more!

Great album song that just fizzles live...
  • i dont like the lyrics. actually i dont like the style of lyrics Ed sometimes writes (especially on Avocado) where he sounds like he is basically reading out of a newspaper and trying to make it something i would identify with. it has nothing to do with particular politics, just the hamfisted way the lyrics come across.
