Absolutely two of the greatest songwriters of all time, no question about that. I don't personally think they are two of the greatest guitarists of all time, but you ask a very thought provoking question. How many multi-talented musicians have been overlooked in one capacity for another (I would like to nominate Jim James from My Morning Jacket, known for his voice and songwriting, but often overlooked as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation. Not of all time, but just his generation). I think Neil is the more talented guitarist of the two, but both are overlooked for their ax skills and widely recognized for their songwriting contributions. On the other hand, I think someone like Pete Townshend gets equal recognition for his contributions to both songwriting and guitar prowess.

    Just my 2cents.

Good stuff, I will take a close listen to Jim James, thanks for the heads up. You are right about Townshend, how about Jimmy Page not getting enough recognition for his songwriting talents? I love Dylan's acoustic work.

Listen to Dylan's first few records and his Bootleg Series Vols. 4 and 6 and you'll know just how great a guitarist he was.
