Saw the 2nd half last night. Will be watching the rest today.

Eye-opening to say the list. If you live, breathe, or drink water, you MUST WATCH THIS!

It is about the natural gas industry, and more specifically the process known as "Fracking" We are being sold the biggest load of shit ever about "clean" natural gas. There is A LOT we CAN DO to NOW to FIGHT THIS! Educate yourself and those around you. Our very way of life on this planet depends on it.

    Haven't seen it yet but I live in one of the areas featured in the movie (North Texas). In the last 5 years I've seen my home town go from a pleasant place to live to a crazy looking place with over 1000 gas wells. In that time the City Council has only refused 2 drilling permits. Recent air quality tests have shown cancer-causing chemicals in the air but the gas companies claim that those are isolated incidents. In Texas gas companies can use eminent domain to run a pipeline under your home and that has happened to homeowners here. City leaders keep saying how great the drilling boom is for our economy but the city is so broke that they keep cutting services and laying off workers.

    I hate what has happened and I think it will only get worse.

    and as for the additives all being perfectly safe, the DOE says:
    A small number of potential fracture fluid additives such
    as benzene, ethylene glycol and naphthalene have been linked to negative health affects at certain
    exposure levels........

    The best way to eliminate concern would be to use additives that are not associated with human health
    effects. While desirable, this is not yet possible in the case of some additives because the alternatives do
    not always have the properties necessary to provide the same degree of effectiveness as more traditional
    constituents. However, with respect to diesel fuel; which was cited as a principal constituent of concern
    by the Oil and Gas Accountability Project (OGAP) because of its relatively high benzene content12 an
    agreement was reached to discontinue its use as a fracture fluid media in zones that qualify as USDWs.


    i also found this interesting:
    For example, the GWPC/ DOE study, discussed previously, also found that depending upon
    the design of the fracture job and the specific formation dynamics involved, anywhere from 30-70% of
    fracturing fluids are returned to the surface through the well.


    isn't that a nice way to say 30-70% of the chemicals are NOT recovered???

    The DOE also says [only] Ten states require a listing of chemicals
    or pressures used but none requires a listing of either the volume of fluid that flows back to the surface or an estimation of the volume of fluid that remains in the formation following the treatment.

    Well go actually watch it 5! Of course you get on my thread again with complete bs (and I don't mean backspacer!). You again prove yourself to completely uninformed. Why in the world would you post that. But whatev, everybody can see where that comes from.

    What's with the attitude Ryan? I looked at the link and said I haven't watched it yet. I plan too. I also mentioned this to a friend and he passed along that link, which is why I posted it. I think if anything, we shouldn't jump to conclusion in any matter, yet you find it ok to do when it's anti-business, but take a film makers word verbatim? If you've ever read anything I post on here you'd probably know I have my opinions and bias's like most, but don't automatically rush to judgment on the unknown. So I think you may want to do the same unless you are some sort of geo-scientist with expertise in this field and haven't clued the rest of us in on that? :roll:

Yet you post this link from a "friend". I question your motives. You seem to be very supportive of the corporate structure and what they promote.

    If you watch TEN minutes of this actual film you will be blown away. Read the post above from the clubber in Texas. THAT is real. Watch the movie and SEE this corporate CEO's lying their asses off.     Ryan, sharing information isn't "debunking" it's merely context and clarification. Anyone can make a film about any topic, but it doesn't necessarily make it truth and fact. TV is still tv. I didn't jump into the thread ripping the film nor questioning the motives or yours, but it seems like you're so over the top in your response. I basically said I haven't watched so my opinion isn't there yet, but you seem to be the opposite. You obviously do not like the organization which posted those comments, but ignored their details regarding the film. Since you have watched the film and seem to be a self-proclaimed expert, please do comment on the specifics as I'm curious to hear what you have to say other than not liking the messenger.

    Also, can you please stop generalizing and throwing slurs and nonsense regarding my corporate allegiance? You're grasping at straws and merely jumping the gun to fill some broad schemed imaginary portrait of "the other side". Truth is I'm probably just as much "anti-corporate" as you if not more, but merely don't rush to judgment in practical and pragmatic terms, especially because of an HBO film.

    I'm not taking it at face value. I actually watched the movie, did some follow-up research, and made a decision for myself. Why dont you try it.
