what's the point

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the point of 'The Porch' actually is. What is the theme? It's largely overly eclectic inane stuff. Why don't we just scrap the entire thing!?

I wouldn't mind, but whenever you post anything at all leftfield the stock response is 'why do we care about that here on the porch?'

I suggest a new brand new section entitled 'Pearl Jam merchandise and buyable stuff'

    you know when you do a survey and wanna check the 'other' box 'cos your answer is super special and deserves its own section..

    that's the porch, it's the peanut butter of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that is pearl jam

    OK, I'm happy with that answer.

    As people have probably noticed by now I'm a lot better at dishing out abuse than I am at taking it.

    Maybe the Porch is a place where you can curse the porch, and not get beaten up!

    Most people are better at dishing it out than taking it... not so many, however, can recognize it. Yeah, the Porch seems to be the 'it has the word Pearl Jam in it' section.

    The Porch is where people go to say how great PJ is, but don't allow any form of criticism at all. Basically, it's a big ol' ego pump.

    I'm kind of regretting starting this thing now! Help!

    The Porch is the place to sit out front in the sun & and rock to fro with some peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and some headphones that go to 11 - is that it?

    The other places are where you go if you want some pathos

    The Porch is the part of the board that you go to for general conversation about all PJ related stuff. It could be "I love the new song!" or "Who knows when the last time I've got a feeling was played?" or even just "I can't wait until the tour starts!" Generally, the goal is to keep it fairly positive because this is PJ's own home board.

    The other parts of the board are for other topics. For example, AET is for general topics like BBQs and movies and sports. A moving train is for ranting about the oil spill or politicians or other things like racial profiling. ;)

    Given to Fly is where the setlist threads are and the fanviews.

    I guess so!

    I still think we would benefit from a new 'Merch' section to 'discuss the all-singing all dancing flashy PJ stuff we like to buy' - that would clear a bit of room for a little more meat in the front room don't ya think?
