I need major iTunes/iPod help

I have an old iPod (Classic 80GB) that I bought in 2007. These last few days, nothing's been syncing to the ipod from my itunes. The computer freezes during the process, and I have to do the old "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" routine. About 15 minutes ago I restored the ipod to its original setting, thus deleting everything on it. I tried syncing it again and the computer freezes still. The music's still on the itunes, but my ipod is empty. Who has any good advice for me. I don't know if my operating system has a virus or what. I have to renew my Norton Anti-Virus program in a few days, which I plan on doing. I just don't have the money to get my laptop looked at and fixed either. There is an Apple Store near me that I will go to when I have a chance.

It may be the computer. Try linking the ipod, click on the ipod icon and change it to manual download. I never let the ipod automatically upload as I don't want 70gb of music hovering on the computer. When you've done that just select all songs and drag on to the ipod icon in the left hand navigation bar. It may work. Perhaps try loading a few songs to start off.

Does your computer freeze up when you are using other applications? Try doing one album to see if that works. You may have shit on your computer that is nailing the processor as well.

Use these two and see if it helps:

    http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-A ... 04572.html

I use these and 98% of the time it gets the garbage off.

Do you have your music backed up somewhere - either on an external hard drive or burned on DVDs or CDs? If not do that right away just in case.

    Call the Apple help desk.

I had problems, they were able to help me.

It took 2 hours, but he sat there on the phone with me until everything resolved.

I don't know why people put up with the piece of junk that is iTunes. It's one of the major reasons I'm not getting another iPhone and I don't even have music or movies on the phone.
The only people we should try to get even with...
    ...are those who've helped us.

the software is ok. nothing exciting in it. i would have bought a zune or something else if somebody made a car stereo that would intergrate with it, but since nobody did, i went ipod classic.

Rather than starting a new thread, I thought I would post my problem here.

I bought a hard drive to backup my songs. I went through the instructions on apple about how to do it. Then I looked at itunes and it was completely empty. I did the same as a previous poster said and called apple. The guy was very helpful and was on the phone with me for about and hour and a half until everything was right.

The songs were still on my computer but not on the external hard drive. Does anyone have instructions on how to back up the songs and get them on my external hard drive? I think last time I did it I might have saved all of itunes rather than just the songs? Sorry if this isn't explained well, I'm not super computer savvy.

i've done this and had to reinstall windows, itunes, etc etc etc on my computer after wiping it.

open up windows explorer. find the my documents folder. should be the first folder listed after the desktop icon. in that folder should be an itunes folder that will contain both the music files and the license info. copy all those folders to your external hard drive.

if for some reason, you need to rebuild your computer, install itunes and then plug in your harddrive and copy those folders back to you hard drive, replacing the folders that were installed when you reinstalled itunes.

i've done this a couple of times without issue, but it's been on the same hard drive/computer combo. i don't think there is an issue if you do a different computer/hd combo, but don't qoute me on it.

Thanks everyone. I should have come here before I tried it on my own!

I know it's nerdy but I really liked having the play count for my songs on itunes and it is all gone now. But the important thing is I still have all my songs.

I've used a program, I think it was called iDump, I kid you not, to get my songs back from iTunes onto the ipod. Mine was wiped out too, this should do the trick.

i never tried without the liscense info. but it takes up so little space, it wouldn't make sense to copy all you music and leave the liscense info. plus, liscense info seems kind of imporatant to me. your results may vary

    Hi everyone!

    Another retard ipod question.

A friend at work gave me three movies in "mp4" format on a burned DVD. I put them on itunes and they seemed fine. I brought the DVD back to my friend and my wife tried to sync her ipod to it last night and it said the movies weren't there. What's the dealio?

I went to "add file to library" and added the files from the DVD to itunes.

i believe that just pointed itunes at the dvd. if you put the dvd back in your pc, and then sycn, you should be fine, or copy the files to your hd and reimport than into itunes.

Yeah I think that's what happened. I think I have it worked out. THanks!
