Hey Jammers, i'm going to Chicago for the first time over July 3rd-July 7th and was curious for recommendations on places to see, eat, see live music, any Pearl Jam favorite locales? -- Gonna get to a cubs game while i'm there, but outside of Wrigley, anything I HAVE to do per your recommendations?

Thanks,

Rhino.

  • eat at harey carey's if you get the chance

and Kinch is playing at the Empty Bottle on July 3rd...i saw them open for Local H last month and was very impressed with their sound
  • This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm going next Tues. for one night on business but will prob have some time to do some things. I've been there before but always had to drive to another town so never actually stayed in Chicago very long. Does anyone recommend any good restaurants in the downtown area?? Or cool places to see?

Navy Pier is pretty neat...Genos pizza is pretty good..But, there is a lot of good pizza joints in Chicago..Just depends on your preference...Sears tower would be a good place to checkout..

You'll be here at the right time. Taste of Chicago is going on. Festival right downtown near the lake in Grant Park that has food from a lot of the restraunts in the Chicago area plus bands and beer. Depends on what kind of bar you want to go to. Downtown is a little pricey. A cheap cab ride will get you to some better places. Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park for a younger college aged crowd. Rush and Divison for the late night tourist bars. Division street between Ashland and Damen for a 30's crowd. Wicker Park for a mix of 20's-late 30's crowd, with plenty of bars to choose from. Plenty of places to drink and eat all over the city. Pizza is usually a tough decision. Everyone here will tell you a differnt place is the best in the city. Bars to see bands at are Metro by Wrigley, Empty Bottle on Western Ave., Double Door at North, Milwaukee and Damen Ave., and Bottom Lounge on Lake street to name a few. They all have websites so you can look up who's playing while you're here.

    Hope this helps. Have fun.

If anything metromix.com will list the different festivals and bands playing during the time you're here.
I am lost, I'm no guide, but I'm by your side

the tatse is over rated. i'd skip it unless you like a lot of fried foods.

tons of places downtown to eat. we went to catch 35 last week. it was good.

we plan on hitting hte 95th at the hancock next week for lunch. it looks a bit pricey for a lunch, but it beats paying the willis tower money to ride an elevator to an oberservation deck.

check out the art muesum (and buy something to support the gf)

lot of micro brews to check out.

Yeah, the Taste has gotten pretty ghetto. I wouldn't recommend going. My sister went last year and regretted it.

The Vic theatre is about a mile from Wrigley. I didn't get to go to the infamous show, but it was still really cool for me to see.

Giordano's pizza was awesome. I'm a big aquarium fan, and Grand Lux Cafe is epic for a semi fancy lunch/dinner. Touristy? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

if you want THE BEST HAMBURGER YOU'VE EVER HAD go to Kuma's Corner on Belmont, close to elston. You'll have to wait a little for a seat but the list of amazing micro brews and ridiculous gourmet burgers will make every second worth it. plus it's metal(esque) themed so lots of good tunes from classic rock to current stuff. check it out!

If you wanna go to the taste it's crowded and kinda pricey but good food. Plus steve miller band is playing for free on the 3rd and robert randolph and the family band on the 4th. Both very worth your time. other than that the usual museums and sights are all good.

95th floor is pretty cool. hell of a view. food was lacking. most expensive lunch i've ever had. then again, i had a martini and the gf had desert...plus the Daly tax.

if you wanna be cheaper, just shoot up to the 96th floor, take a look and then take off. free

or stop into the bar and have a beer.
