I have a few shows that are on the DVR, (Iconoclasts Ed & Laird, Conan O'Brien, Storytellers etc) that I want to burn to DVD. How do I do this? Can anybody help? (the DVR is dying and I want to keep the shows before I have to give it back to big conglomerate cable company)

Willing to burn a copy for anybody that can help!

thanks!

There is a program called DVD Shirnk, but there are numerous versions of it on the internet and I never seem to be able to download the correct version. But there are simple DVD players that also burn and could be hooked up to your DVR very easily. They are not that expensive anymore or you could buy it, then record all your stuff and return it.

How about You Tube? Is there a way to record You Tube videos? Thanks.

  • If you run Firefox, get the Download Helper add on, then you can download and save videos from YouTube.
I've got a great collection going that I've transferred to my iPod now :D

  • I just bought a DVD burning program, by Roxio, that came with a flash drive that connects to you r TV (or DVR or VCR). It's basically an Audio/video connection with a flash drive on the other side. I haven't used it yet, not sure how well it works

Sony has a DVD Burner that is external and it's literally "plug and record." You just connect via cables and then play the show, burn the dvd. I've done it quite a few times now. I originally bought the DVD burner a while back to burn my FLAC shows onto a DVD for storage and backup copies but have been getting a lot of use out of it. Kind of a pain in the butt to have to hook it up all the time, but you could just hook it up and leave it.

I'm away right now, but I can let you know the model number and everything when I get back. It's great if you want to "steal" something off a buddy's DVR as well...

Gotta try that out. I've been using Real's add on & www.keepvid.com. Does the Download Helper download the files @ any size available?
  • It gives you a bunch of different options for your download. I've been doing them as MP4s, which seems to work really well.
