The Great Grey Owl and Eye

Down from black mountains
Out of bear scarred pine
And off the bison trail
For the first time in
Several lifetimes
Surrounded
By the anarchy
Of screaming children
The reeking belch
Of motorcycle
The lines of faces
Pressed against glass
From inside
The plastic stomach
Of their noxious devourer
The sight
Of cowards strapping
Firearms to hips
And it is all too much

Just hours ago
A few miles back
Or maybe
A reincarnated dream
From bygone epochs
I shared the violet dawn
Of a forested meadow
With a hooded
A feathered druid
Explaining the history
Of these woods
Their place
Those shadows and
Pounding hearts

A silent assassin
A calm witness
A teacher who knows better
Than to hear
These hollow sounds

If anyone is interested in how I edit my stuff. Check my blogspot and compare the version on there with this draft I whipped off the top of my head. One is clearly better than the other.

Anyhoo ("hoo" get it? ;) ), thanks for the feedback. Truly one of the greatest wildlife experiences of my whole life. That owl was and will always be my friend.
