Connecting Computer to TV

I'm hoping someone here can help me with this. I am trying to connect my PC to my HDTV. I bought and connected the cables but when I switched to the RGB mode on my TV, it couldn't connect and shut the TV off. Any help would be appreciated!

    If it is a laptop, try hitting the function button (Fn) and it should be F5 or F4 together. This will send the signal to the TV. The F4 or F5 button should have a symbol that looks like 2 boxes with a slash in between. I hope it works.

    I've had my laptop connected to my HDTV for years. I don't remember having to do anything other than connect the cables and start it up. I definitely do not have to hit a Function key each time and I use it almost daily.

    Sorry I couldn't be more help. Perhaps it's in the cable or connection.
