HD-DVD and BluRay are both High Definition formats, but the scientific mechanics behind them differ. Welcome to the latest format war.

  • I personally can hardly tell the difference between regular tv and HD tv... I own a PS3 so I have the option of Bluray but I dont chose to use it.

But there is a theater near me that is still showing into the Wild and I havnt seen it on the big screen yet so im going to do that soon. I will probably also be buying the two disc special edition.

the indie theater pulled Into the Wild after only 3 or 4 weeks in my city- that's what I get for procrastinating. But at least the DVD will be out soon :)

Yeah, it was played for probably a month in a little indie theater in Tacoma. I am glad I went and saw it on the big screen.

I'll probably be getting the special edition DVD.

Question about the format wars - will blueray and HD DVD's play on regular DVD players?

Nope, you either need an HD player or a Blu-ray/PS3. They are making some players that are dual format now though, but they are a bit pricey.

If you got an Xbox 360, you can get the External HD-DVD Player for it for just $199.99 CDN. I picked one up over a year now and it still hasn't changed in price. It's the cheapest HD-DVD Player on the market. I seen a few HD-DVD Players this week on sale for the boxing day week that are cheaper at Best Buy & Futureshop, but they don't do the 1080p. Plus, you don't even need an Xbox 360. It's USB 2.0. There's a way to hook it up to your PC. Won't get into how to do it here. Search google to find that answer. ;)

As for Into The Wild being released on HD-DVD, sweet! :) I was kinda hoping it got released on Blu-ray. Cause when Walk Hard comes out in '08, it'll only be released only on Blu-ray. It's by Apatow Productions w/ Columbia Pictures. I got only Superbad & Talladega Nights for the Blu-ray. HD-DVD has the 40 Year-Old Virgin & Knocked Up. Will be picking those up this weekend with those Christmas gift cards. :)

Why I say it would be sweet if it was released on Blu-ray is because Walk Hard will be released on Blu-ray only, if Into The Wild was too .. it would be a sweet back-to-back Ed on the Blu format in '08. :P lol.
  • Anyone know what's different on the collectors edition yet?

Among the previously-announced extras are the "Into the Wild: The Story, The Characters" and "Into the Wild: The Experience" featurettes, plus the film's theatrical trailer.

So, will movies still be released in the standard DVD format? Is this movie being released in the standard DVD format?

  • Loved the movie and was bummed I didn't get to see it again but would be nice if the DVD included the parts from his travels that show what an utter boob he was and how he could easily wind up dying.
