Ben is a reference to the Michael Jackson song "Ben". Eddie is a huge Jackson fan... or was when he was a child at any rate!

In 1972, a movie named 'Ben' was realeased.
A social outcast has rats for friends, learns to communicate with them,
+ uses them for personal, sinister, motives.
In 2003, the movie was remade + renamed 'Willard,'
after the title character, played by Crispin "Hey McFly!" Glover.
Ben is the name of the extremely oversized rat that
    Willard befriends.
Now, I haven't seen either movie, so this is
    most speculation.
    Hopefully helpful, however.
    Cheers.

PJ covered Someday at Christmas by the J5 on the 04 single. I think thats the closest we will get to a MJ cover.

No - partly correct. Yes, Ben was a 1972 movie, as you aid, but Willard (2003) is a remake of Willard (1971), not of Ben. Two distinct rat movies (Ben was a sequel to Willard). (I have an advantage-- i was in elementary school when those original films were released!)

If this is true then I finally understand why in 94' at the old Chicago Stadium, Eddie says " Michael Jackson is innocent " during Rats. Michael was being accused of child molestation at the time ( one of more to come ). That was an amazing show to be at and I was there. :D Eddie always has is ways of voicing his opinion.

I might have the Chicago Stadium show confused with another but I'm positive he said that during Rats and I'm 99.9% sure it was in 94'. The show was broadcast live on the radio and I still might have a copy on cassette.

Look it up, man! He wrote quite a few songs. He wasn't responsible for writing Thriller and Bad, just to name a few, but he was responsible for Smooth Criminal, Dirty Diana, Man In The Mirror. I'm not trying to flame you but you should give credit where credit is due. If you told me that you never tapped your foot or liked any of his songs AT ALL, I would call "shenanigans"...unless you are paralyzed.
