I've been working my way through the whole tour and got to this bad boy this morning. I'm thinking, "Wow, this shows kicks all sorts of ass!" and then it hits me. Not only is it awesome for what they played, I realize that they didn't play Corduroy, Elderly Woman, or Betterman.

Now I know that there are plenty of threads bashing the staples they play all the time and I don't want it to sound like I'm doing that, but it was refreshing to know that on occasion they trim the fat so that songs like Alone, Immortality, In Hiding, Brother, Footsteps, etc. end up being played at the same show.

What's funny is that I figured for sure that it would have been forever since those three songs were not played in the same show, but sure enough it happened at Manchester last year as well, so go figure.

  • I had a so/so - run of the mill feeling after this show.

After re-reading the set list and listening to the crowd boot, I can honestly say I really didn't appreciate this show the way I should have. Part of that may have been the great feeling of hearing Footsteps live for the first time in 20 shows tipping the scales on the other 29 songs.

The Newark show kicked ass for sure ... the crowd got slammed for being weak, but when I was there I remember thinking at the time, I bet this boot will sound fucking great, as do many shows where the audience wasn't as good as they are in Philly or at MSG or in Boston ... it really was a fantastic setlist, and since I only saw 3 shows this tour, Newark and the two MSG shows, man am I one satisfied customer! Thanks TenClub, Thanks Pearl Jam ... and of course, thanks to my fellow jammers for making this all encompassing trip so fucking cool!!!!
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!

This show was great, the Immortality to In Hiding combo really kicked ass, and Of the Girl was a fantastic starter as always, it set the tone for the show.

I thought the Newark setlist was the best of the tour. But ive talked to a couple people who went to the show, and they both said the show really wasnt that great. They said the crowd sucked and the setlist didnt really flow well. But some of my favorite songs were on that setlist. I went to hartford, Boston & both MSG shows, but unfortunately missed this one. I wanted to hear Brother, its one of the few Pearl jam songs I havent heard live yet.

There's no doubt that the "crowd" didn't match Boston or NY, but that doesn't mean that the show itself was bad. I had a blast and loved the setlist. I was excited to finally get to hear Brother live.

The band still brought it even if the crowd was tired out from the Boston show the night before. I think everyone was resting up for MSG a little too.

But realistically, how many people actually went to Boston and Newark? Probably less than 100. I doubt that had much of an impact on the crowd. Maybe Jersey just stinks (literally and figuratively) Actually I know for a fact it literally stinks.

The Newark show was DEFINITELY up there with the rest of the big dogs. I mean, who would have thought? Newark? :? The crowd was terrible but the band and set were outstanding. I have yet to listen to the boot but I cant effin WAIT!!! :D

Preaching to the choir here -- i agree with all of this! I loved the show and the boot has reinforced my opinion of the show. Newark followed by both MSG shows was a great week for me -- if only i could have started in Boston!!

I wont argue with those who think the MSG shows were better, but, as a matter of personal preference, Newark gets more play on my ipod.

Yeah, at a week removed from getting the boots, I am listening to Newark more than any other shows right now including Philly.
