So I watched this film as an adult tonight, for the first time in years, maybe decades, not understanding or even wanting to understand it back in the day..
I'm trying to figure it out now.. Is it about rebirth? Life, or conscious rebirth? Is man reborn or so to say at the end?
Or is this film purposely left open to interpretation?
It was good, and I enjoyed it, but just trying to put the pieces together..

it is all left wide open for interpretation. i've always looked at it has a celebration of technology. haven't seen it in a couple of years... def. due for a viewing. great movie indeed.
i'd say it's more of the opposite. a warning to be careful what power you give to computers.
i can see that based on that one iconic scene with HAL.
but looking at the movie as a whole... the monolith's appearance in the beginning of the flim kind of sparks human ingenuity, which sparks technology, which sparks space travel, which connects humans to the moon monolith, whose signal humans follow to the space monolith, which propels bowman through the dimension for the remainder of his life and finally into his rebirth as the next step in evolution.
i really need to sit down and watch this movie again. amazing soundtrack too.
No, no it's not.
