Keeper of Souls

the ferryman’s long robe swayed
the river came alive as
Charon of Hades stopped at the banks
waiting for his fare
I placed a coin in his hand
and our journey was underway
across the Styx
my emotions are not my own
I show no fear, also no joy to be found
this is what it’s like?
I almost don’t comprehend
the faces of the living dead
all around the boat,
in despair
a toll unpaid,
their sentence?
100 years in the Styx…
I am non existent
and the days go by slowly
Charon sometimes looks at me
and smiles a grotesque smile
the journey nearing its final destination..
I see a figure standing on the other side,..
the keeper of souls awaits…
Peace, Love.

I like this alot... this gave me the chills as I read it, I don't know why ?! It's as if it's been read to me a long time ago, something familiar about it - but I know - its not possible. Thank you for sharing.

Pandora knows of the river of Styx :(
Wolf, this very descriptive and well written,
paints the picture of the highway of the damned frightenly well.
Makaria was the goddess of blessed death,
bound to the Island of the Blessed, or the White Island.
You are a blessed and beautiful soul, perhaps you will write of this one day.

Thank you for reminding me about The River of Styx - I know there was something familiar - but couldn't quite figure it out. I just love reading about those ancient - mythical times. Thank you Wolf for your poem.
