Did it come out today? Fuck yes! I'm definitely picking this up. Tom Petty is the shit.

mfc, I have to agree...Campbell is quite an underrated guitarist...and pretty loyal too, if my memory serves me right hasn't he been a Heartbreaker since their incarnation?

LOVE the new record. I'd have to say it's by far the least poppy album they've made. Really isn't any sing along or really catchy chorus to belt out but the music is fucking great. They really captured the old school blues/southern rock feel on this. As said Mike is really underrated and tom said that mike was gonna let loose on this album and not dissapointed that he did. Don't pull me over is one of the coolest songs they've written....and yeah they get an extra 100 points for giving you a free download of the album if you bought a concert ticket to their show. just awesome.

I thought Last DJ kicked the crap outta Wildflowers, which I thought was too frontloaded with the good tunes.

Not a big fan of someone like Petty railin so hard against the biz, but I can't deny how great some of those songs are.

Like A Diamond has prolly the most tastefeul solo ever put to tape.

How's Campbell on this one? Of course he's tasty but does he get plenty of room to shine?

I think this album is incredibly good. I've recently started to appreciate Campbell more, and his playing on this album is outstanding. He gets to jam on "First Flash of Freedom" in particular, but all of his leads are crisp and tasteful on the album. There is a very strong blues/southern rock feel, and the songwriting is very solid. I actually had fairly high expectations for this release, and I think the album exceeded them.

Just picked this up yesterday, but from what I've really listened to it is excellent. I'm planning on giving it a good proper listen late this evening, sitting out on the back porch, nothing but the moonlight, a Pall Mall, a cold beer and me. It sounds like it would fit that quite well.

I picked it up Tuesday, along with Jack Johnsons' latest and gave them a listen on the way home...

(Hey DC, Bought them at SLowtrain after visiting Hatch family Chocolates in the Avenues-- worlds best walnut fudge if you go)

I must admit, the combo of those two werent the best the 1st time around. I commented to my wife that they are nice sleeping CD's, but I just have to give them a chance. I really need to play them a few more times while not driving and alot louder to see if they will hook me or not. I did notice that Tom must have lost his best rhyming thesaurus though. ;)

Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

I think Mojo is outstanding. I'm going to TP's show in Atlanta on August 11th, and I can't wait to hear some of these new songs in a live setting.

Mojo rightly deserves to get a Grammy nomination for Album Of The Year, but of course it won't.
  • my bad but i haven't listened to the whole cd yet but i did prep for the tour and got to really know the 4 songs they were playing live...and those all were amazing

running man's bible is the best tune i've heard from tom in a really really long time
dare i say it but i think it's as good as anything he's done in the past 10+years

and i'm huge petty sheep(been on board since he toured as dylan's back up band, and seen every tour since)

A Christ I was trying to resist buying this after spending so much money on PJ but this thread has made it unresistable!
And I have been a petty fan since "you're gonna get it" when he was marketed as "new wave music" (true story can u imagine)
Then I was the first person in my high school to buy " damn the torpedoes" the day it came out. All my friends were like "isn't that a fifties band?"
    Lmao!
