i just read that last week english soccer fans burned the american flag in protest over soccer owners tom hicks and george gilete. now i'm not usually the one to join in polictical things but enough is enough with england. it is bad enough that they clearly don't care that bp (british petrolium) has permantly damaged our oceans and don't want to take responsibilty i just want to remind england that not so long ago our american boys who's uniforms bore the americn flag died by the thousands liberating there sorry ass england from hitler! if it wasn't forAMERICA and it's flag of freedom you english motherfuckers would be in fucking concentration camps! you should all be ashamed of yourself's......pussys  you'll get yours someday. fuck the queen and fuck england too!

Seriously, when will people start treating one another with the same respect afforded to a piece of cloth.

Coincidentally, would the op like it if someone from another country viewed all Americans as fat, homophobic, racist rednecks based on the actions of some.

....but enough is enough with england. it is bad enough that they clearly don't care that bp (british petrolium) has permantly damaged our oceans and don't want to take responsibilty !

Ummmmm..... BP... which includes a certain american company once called Amoco. BP is global with numerous international partners.

  **sighs** Here we go again. Let me remind you that a lot of different countries took part, including Canada, Australia, Grece, New Zealand, Norway, etc. And yes, British and French troops as well.

Also, before making stupid statements about how the British would be living 'if not for the Americans', learn abour WWII history and how the war actually happened.

Just thought I'd point out BP hasn't meant British Petroleum for 12 years. The name was changed to BP Amoco when British Petroleum merged with Amoco (believe that's a US firm ;)) and then later shortened to just BP and it has more than twice as many US employees as British.

As cate said it's just a flag ... and as cate also pointed out you may need to check your history the UK didn't need liberating from Hitler as it was never invaded. They got involved in the war when another country was invaded just like the US did.

Burning a flag isn't seen as some huge insult to a whole country here - not that I'm condoning it - and to hate a whole country in the way you seem to have there "you should all be ashamed of yourself's......pussys you'll get yours someday. fuck the queen and fuck england too!" seems like a slight over reaction.

Believe it or not most of us are quite nice :P

EDIT: I was too slow see redrock covered some of this

i agree with most of you,but for me the flag is a holy symbol for my country, and must give the respect it deserves..isnt not just a piece of cloth.and noone has the right to burn it,especially when people die for the flag.

The nine stripes represent the nine syllables of the phrase "Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος" ("Freedom or Death", " E-lef-the-ri-a i Tha-na-tos"), the five blue stripes for the syllables "Έλευθερία" and the four white stripes "ή Θάνατος". The nine stripes are also said to represent the letters of the word "freedom" (Greek: Ελευθερία)

... and as dimi said it was just a couple of guys ... how they could invoke such a reaction against a whole country :? ... and if the OP was going to feel that way about all countries where an American flag may have been burned at one time for any reason he'd have a long list of countries to hate.

I don't condone burning a flag but it was a one off small thing

  • i think most english people do care about the state of the ocean in the gulf of mexico , and do not agree with burning flags . the people that did this must have done it for some type of reaction which they seem to have got . when you talk about multi-national companys you have not to forget is what happened in bhopal a few years ago , bad things happen

There aren't enough words to capture just how disappointed I am with this disrespectful post. Absolutely disgusting.

As many people have already said, get some facts straight before you come on here slandering a whole nation and playing the blame game. America is far from perfect, as is England... The flag burning was a football thing... I fear that this post and your hatred runs much deeper than that. Grow up and save your racism and profanities for far more small-minded people who might just listen and agree with you.

    Dude,

I am from Liverpool ( the place where the flag was burned ) and a Liverpool FC fan ( the club owned by Hicks and Gillette ) who isn't particularly happy with their treatment of our football club.

However, when I heard about the flag being burned it was such a ridiculous over reaction to the situation that it made me laugh at loud. I bet the people who did it probably thought they were being very clever at the time, not idiotic morons.

Which brings me to your over reaction........................

Can you finish the rest of that sentence yourself or are you too much of an idiotic moron?

The sentiments of a few soccer hooligans certainly don't reflect the sentiments of an entire nation, but hey - thanks for making us all look ignorant.

The Brits don’t like the fact that super-rich white dudes from the States are buying up their football clubs. They prefer local super-rich white dudes instead. But, I guess I wouldn’t want my favorite NFL team to have an owner that was on the other side of the globe either. It’s not xenophobia, it just wanting a hands-on owner who is vested emotionally with the success of the team.

As for burning flags, that is not a very polite or acceptable thing to do but I’m sure the perps were drunk and most likely known to the locals as . . . what is a good English derogatory name . . . blokes? The “C” word? Ding—dongs? I need some help here people.

  • I think "wanker" is one of them.

I remember in "Beerfest" when the American team was getting ready to face the British team, and the British player said something about "putting the snickers in your allen wickers you plunker," or something like that.

Is that even remotely close? Either way, it always cracks me up.
