LOS ANGELES --- A space-themed, talking Hallmark graduation card is being pulled from store shelves because of the card’s reference to a black hole.
But members of the Los Angeles NAACP say the message sounds like "black whore" in the card's audio recording. That's how they hear it, and they say it's racist, KABC-TV in Los Angeles reported.
"That was very demeaning to African-American women when it made reference to African-American women as whores, and at the end it says 'watch your back,'" said Leon Jenkins of the Los Angeles NAACP.
The Hallmark card reads, "Hey world, we are officially putting you on notice," before playfully touting the ambitious future of the new graduate.
Characters known as "Hoops" and "Yoyo" banter on: "And you black holes, you are so ominous. Watch your back."
Hallmark calls the outrage a misunderstanding, claiming that the space theme emphasizes the power the graduate has to take over the universe, even energy-absorbing black holes.
"The intent here is to say that this graduate is not afraid of anything," explained Hallmark spokesman Steve Doyal.
Apparently, NAACP members heard something different.
Its frustrating that their focus is on the trivial while real problems exist.

And just because you are stupid enough to believe a greeting card is being a racist... doesn't make it so.
It also ANGERS me because the guy who doesn't get the job for being black or Mexican (or white) is screwed by these types of ridiculous race cards being played.
I can't believe they took it this far... seriously.
...
Add:
The voices on the card... the theme being you can take on the Universe, Grad... say, "Blacks Holes... you're so onimous". The second voice says, "Planets, watch your back".
Not even telling the Black Holesto watch their back... PLANETS... watch your bbacks.
Now... I admit... I'm older and maybe out of touch with today's slang... but, seriously, is PLANET as racial slur for black people, now?

Hail, Hail!!!
Give a fucking break... just because you want to hear something, doesn't mean it actually says it.
In related news, GLAD is protesting Hallmark's Flag Day cards for today's holiday... Apparently they misunderstood their "Hang a Flag" campaign a bit...

2. I think it's probably more about the word "whore" than the word "black". I think there would have been people calling for any card to be pulled that sounded like it was talking about whores to new high school graduates.
1.You opinion dosent matter.
2. Except people wern't calling for it to be pulled it was the NAACP.
I am glad their putting their focus on the trivial. You know I have never heard the NAACP with a public outcry with all the black on black crim. In cincinnati we have 8 shooting deaths in 8 days. But there was no outcry or concern about that, but when it comes to hallmark cards, that where the real issue lies........

Holy crap is this fucking stupid... the card has been out for 3 years, and they are making an issue about it now?
I guess when the NAACP ignores other problems in the black community, so they can spend their time making up "problems" like this to get their names in the newspaper and on TV.

this made me laugh hard,
on topic:
it is a sad state of affairs that we really still focus on race at all. In any context. It makes me thankful that I was raised to not care about someone's skin color, unforunately some aren't. I cannot imagine the trials one has gone through in life to be so on edge that racism is found in a greeting card about space.
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb
