So my college buddy....

has been hanging out at my apartment the past two weeks and HASN'T STOPPED LISTENING TO DAVE MATTHEWS. I'm ready to fill the bath tub and take apart my Gillette razor kit. Is it just me or do Dave fans never know when to just shut up? I don't go around preaching and pushing Pearl Jam or Wilco on anyone, yet every summer when I try to talk music and bands with other peer college students it always gets turned into a Dave Matthews conversation. We get it, Dave speaks to our generation and is "deep with his lyrics", move along.
I for one can tolerate Dave Matthews in small doses. Most of his songs sound too similar for my liking but a few of his hits I can't help but give him props for. Sorry for the rant, but I'm so tired of hearing about Dave's "amazing concerts (yet the three I've been too have all been similar and a tad boring and the crowd is full of douchers) and lyricism."
The other part that bugs me is me and the kid have recently started jamming together and every time I start playing something or give him a lead to follow he always dives back into playing a Dave Matthews song. It's funny that if I try to give the kid something new to listen to he turns a deaf ear to it but if I get him to listen to me playing a cover of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" (Wilco) he will think it is a song I created and say it's awesome, then I tell him it's a Wilco song and he just says "oh" and goes back to playing Dave songs.
The best part of Dave Matthews Band is the rest of the band minus their following, Dave and the Stefan Lessard. I'd really like to see Carter Beauford and Tim Reynolds play in other bands and not just Dave's cookie cutter jams.

"Becoming a Bruce fan is like hitting puberty as a musical fan. It's inevitable." - dcfaithful
Then there is also people who don't get our obsession with Pearl jam.
DMB just have too many songs that sound alike. They are an "I got to be in the mood" to listen to one of the songs I like and the handful of songs is somewhere between like 5-10 songs that I actually really enjoy.
