the guy was full of hate and later that hate was intensified by drugs (speed) that also affected his decisions in orchestrating battle plans..but the German scientist had it going on so the US "made an offer they couldn't refuse"hence the jet engine, long range rockets, small arms etc.

Um well the thing is we do for the most part know what is true and what is make believe and it does matter. Since your op started with a an odd mix of half truth soup, the discussion that followed was nothing more then an attempt to untangle the truth from the fiction. So if it "did it's job" well it's job was rather pointless so thanks for wasting everyones time! :yawn:0 -

Sorry you feel that way....
It was something I found from someone else and found interesting
And I think it did spark debate
And I also think it caused some of us to look up and search out some truths that we did not know about before
I really don't agree that "most" know what is true and what is make-believe when it comes to this stuff
Maybe now....some more of us actually do
So to me...yeah, it did it's jobpeace,

Just to correct... the only operational jet fighter of WWII was the Luftwaffe's Messerschmidt Me-262. The Germans also put the first cruise missle (V-1) and long range ballistic missile (V-2) into use. And that 'offer' was to forgive and forget all of his Nazi party affiliations and the lives of concentration camp prisoners they took in order to work for us.
Werner Von Braun was a Nazi party member and a commissioned officer in the SS. His V-2 program used slave labor from concentration camps that killed more people (prisoners) in the manufacturing that the weapon did in deployment.
Granted, von Braun was monumental in the early U.S. rocket program... but, it does come with some guilt and shame because his past record as a Nazi. Somehow, the deaths of prisoners from concentration camps under his command are forgiven and forgotten because of his engineering skills. He was appointed lead positions in the U.S. government lived comfortable in wealth for 30 something years and has buildings named after him.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions!
