The hardest song on Eddie?

Which song(s) really hurt Ed's vocal chords? Do you think that some songs are being played less because of that?

I think is evolution but i'm not an expert, what do you think?

I heard Evacuation is a tough song for him to sing, but even if it wasn't, I don't think they'd play it more often.

Ed said at The Astoria show in 06 that Comatose was really hard on his voice. I would think that Blood would be another hard one but he pretty much nailed it at The O2 last year

I agree with Blood being really hard on his voice, but Love Reign O'er Me I believe is a little harder on the vocal chords.

In Boston (Mansfield) '08, he mentioned that they could play Love Reign O'er Me because they had the next night off. That song just sounds like it hurts. I wince every time I hear those screams, but that makes me love it even more.

As much as I like Love Reign O'er Me and The Real Me Ed rarely hits the high notes and I feel there's a small handful of songs that are a step too far on a frequent basis. Bring back The Kids Are Alright! I don't think he struggles that much with many songs though. I've listened to all the Aus/NZ boots again recently and he really nailed a lot of the heavy, shouty stuff on that tour. The Ten songs on Melbourne were fucking awesome and you would never guess they were 09 if you didn't know. I find it strange Ed often pushes his vocals an octave higher on parts he never normally used to and doesn't need to? Present Tense is one example at the first, "You can't spend your time alone..." It was an octave lower on the Binaural tour so it's not like he's trying to rest it. Release and Long Road are sometimes pushed to the limit too. I'm not complaining though, I just want him to continue doing what he does for a long time yet! :D

"Blood" has got to be tough, a really abrasive vocal part...but I love when he rips right into it anyway.

"Force of Nature" too. It's a constant stream of vocals with hardly any room for breath...which is only one of the reasons it's not so great on the Perth 11/14/09 show, although the various (and obvious) musical fuckups don't help. They've all closed in on it on later versions, although this is a song where the studio version is the still the best version.
"I know I was born and I know that I'll die...the in between is mine"

The first four songs on "Backspacer," sung as they are on the record, are murder on the throat. "Force Of Nature" is also tough. And "The End" is so tough that Eddie doesn't even try live to hit the notes he hits on the record. Listen to how he sings the lines, "I just want to hold on and know I'm worth your love..." and "give me something to echo in my unknown future's ear" on the record versus live.

On the "Binaural" tour, Eddie mentioned more than once that "Evacuation" was really tough to sing. I think it's only the chorus that's difficult.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Jeremy yet. It is the reason it's not played more.

I've been at shows where Ed sounds like he's dying and they would still bust out Blood. I think that one is overrated for how tough it is for him.

Garden. He can't keep the tone on that one. Jeremy is another, those high/clean notes are not in his favour like in the 90s.

The screaming songs it seems he has learned to "fake" the aggresivnes, like on Go, DTE etc. On some songs he makes his new "safe/fake" screams and than can go to sininging normally a beat after. To me, comparing to the early years, it sounds like he sings the songs safe and with very much controlled "screaming".

Well i want Ed to be safe as possible, there's so many records/concerts to come and i want to hear him live at least 500 times more.
