Take note, Pearl Jam... Those are probably two of your most "known-by-the-general-public" (read: commercially popular) songs by the general public. And they weren't even proper A-sides or on a full LP...

I heard Just Breathe while shopping in Lowes today.
...but what's the point of releasing "Better Days" when it's not on any album, nor available for purchase? The band has gotten very proactive about marketing themselves (eg: SNL appearance right before TM ticket sales, etc) so I'm wondering "what's the angle". Unless the station just decided to play it, but in this litigious world, I doubt it.
Also, there must be a reason the band is letting us discuss the song on the board (even though links are removed). It's very curious indeed.

I heard Amongst the Waves once on WAAF in Boston although I rarely listen to regular radio anymore. I listen mostly to Sirius Satellite Radio and they play Amongst the Waves all the time.
Listening to Alt Nation on Sirius today and the DJ mentioned the "unreleased downloaded song Better Days...." but didn't play it - went on to play Amongst the Waves. I wonder if they will eventually play it? Watch it will become an instant hit! (which wouldn't surprise me one bit since its a great song )

I think this might be a new tactic from PJ. Release a song and make it seem like a "leak" WELL before even announcing an album. I can't see stations being allowed to play a song (and earning revenue from the song with commercials) without specific allowances by the band's management. It's one thing for a rogue DJ to do that, but if a station is part of a conglomerate of stations, there's too much liability.
...but that's a cool tactic!

Before they played it the DJ said it was an unknown track that leaked from monkeywrench.com...which was pearl jams own label and she said it was a little odd. She asked listeners to text what they thought about it, if they liked it or not or when they thought it was written/recorded.
Arkum's razor tells me that the DJ('s) in Philly might just be a huge PJ fan(s). I'd put some money that maybe they are just doing it to please those fans "in the know?"
