  • Unfortunately, you aren't really hurting BP by not buying their gas at gas stations as much as the people that work at these stations, making minimum wage. Our world is constant FU Catch-22.

I agree. By boycotting BP gas you're really just hurting the little guy.

I have been able to boycott them because I have a choice of service stations (and I never really went to BP anyway), but there are a few small towns near here that have no choice BP's all they've got.
The owner operators of service stations make piss all off the gas they sell - it's the soda and candy bars that line their pockets anyway.
Should we feel sorry for the corporation that makes billions of dollars in profit or the owners of the stations that are struggling? I wonder

most owners only make 20cents a gallon, also just because you buy your gas elsewhere there's still a good chance BP was involved with some of the gas you are using....they are such a huge company with refineries and distribution....

I thought that too until I heard this story on the radio this morning, which says that the BP stations are almost all independent franchises that are contractually required to buy their gas from BP.

Yeah there was an article in our paper Sunday about the BP & stores relationship. Basically stores here are now having to put up signs that say locally and independently owned in hopes of counteracting the image. It was interesting to hear that non-BP stations in metro Atlanta have seen a bump in sales that they corelate to people skipping BP.
