I remember the first time I ever heard it. I was on vacation w/ my family in New England during the summer of '98. I was just budding as a born-again PJ fan after quite accidentally having Yield fall in my lap a few months before. At that point, No Code was the only album I didn't own. While in some shops up around Mystic, CT, I found a CD store and browsed around and came across No Code. Decided to buy it.
As I'm driving around w/ my family, I popped the disc in the discman with the tape deck adapter and started... turned up the volume so we could actually hear Sometimes since it was so quiet...
Then BLAM! Hail, Hail explodes through the speakers and my dad almost wrecks the minivan. There was a brief panic in the vehicle as people tried to figure out how to process the explosion of awesomeness that just obliterated their ears.

From that point on, I've loved that track.
That is a funominal story. It does jump out of the speakers after Sometimes doesn't it.
When this hit the airwaves I was 16, just started driving. My mom wouldn't let me listen to it and drive bc she said it made me drive like a maniac! haha
How about when they played this on Letterman? That was life changing for me!
And then they opened up with this first time I ever saw them 98 cleveland oh
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
Good timing...like many of you, listening to it from MSG2 now!
SUCH a sick song, was hoping for it at one of the MSGs, and so happy I got it! Really loved rocking out to it.
"Are you woman enough to be my man"- amazing lyric.

Man... My first show was Hartford '96. When Hail, Hail busted out the infamous riot started. I was able to "sneak" down to the 10th row from the seats during the riot. I was hooked after that... 20 plus shows later I'll never forget Hail, Hail in Hartford. i could hear this every show too..
"I don't wanna think, I wanna feel"
Hey thanks for posting. I don't think I ever saw that. Thats JB's B-day not sure what we were doing but I don't think watching PJ. That was awesome, very much enjoyed it. How different Ed is now, so much more positive and loving. Maybe it was just the recording but he seemed a little angry, Letterman asked if everything was ok??
Im a bit of a Matt Cameron fan...so this song really takes advantage of his talents on the skins.
He typically plays it two different ways. In one version, he uses the ride cymbal quite a bit on the intro and during the chorus. I love how he uses it almost like a cow bell....such control. Really gives the song a bit more funk to it.
The other way he plays it with an open high hat on the intro and chorus. A bit more aggressive as a result, which seems to always fire Ed up.

Love the song, it's always been one of my favorites off No Code
Same here. Life changing version for me. There was something about the way Eddie sang it that was soooo sincere and intense. The band was kinda in that mysterious stage at that time & then came out and blew the roof off with 4 of the most moving minutes I have ever seen

Yes! No offense PJ- but this performance was the peak of your coolness. You're still way cooler than me today, but this performance- whew!! Eddie in a blazer, Stone all Orange... Hadn't seen them since the Vitalogy tour fell apart, all the rumors of them breaking up etc etc and then BAM, BETTER THAN EVER!
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
