I have never seen one in the wild. Which, is basically the inspiration for that fictional piece I included a link to. I mean, I have tracked them, smelled them, heard them, and done everything but see one. Fuckin' ninjas anyway. I did see a lynx once and it was very much like what you described. I have never seen an animal move so fast or gracefully. It did one running leap that must have carried it over twenty feet and it looked effortless.

you know, for all i know it could have been a lynx.
    again, it was a blur.
i'm pretty sure it was a big cat.
and i was kind of scared to be honest.

Not to ruin you're fun of wrestling the beasties of the wilderness but I recently read this article, and when I read your post it popped into my head.

Carry an air horn when you're walking around.... if you see a bear or a mountain lion, use it. The sound will hopefully scare them off.

    Have fun, be safe.

I would love to see a lion! I've been told we have some near our cabin but I've never had the pleasure. It'd be so kickass to see one not in a cage.... Seen plenty of wolves during our little 'earn-a-bear' season. Savage fucks.

There was a raccoon outside our window last night. It was fat and pretty slow and seemed to be enjoying itself in the neighbor's trash barrel.

    I shut the window.

Thus concludes my encounter with American wildlife.

I appreciate the concern. However, this is far from my first rodeo. I spend a lot of time out there amongst the fanged ones. I have a plastic water jug with a big sockeye salmon sticker on it that has bear teeth marks on it. I think the bear actually thought he found a fish that night.

Not sure I want to know what an earn-a-bear season is, but don't be calling wolves names up in my thread. You can insult my mom if you have to, but not the wolves.

Lots of fun raccoon stories camping, what characters are they? Can get a bit scary if you have a pack hanging out fighting amongst themselves in the pitch black, they make some scary noises
One time we had one get into the cooler at night. His cute little hand was able to slide the lock and we peeked out of the tent with the flashlight, he was eating a raw egg, broke in half lapping it up. Very cute.I will never forget the look on that little bandits face, then he scurried off. Come the next am I went to get my homemade pumpkin bread out of the cooler and it was gone. Raccoon must have first dragged it off, no easy feat, its heavy!, then come back to enjoy an egg. :D
Another time we left our strawberry redkin soap out on the picnic table. Next am, little muddy raccoon footprints on a trail across the table with little spitty out piles of soap, must have smelled better than it tasted!

Yeah, we get raccoons around our house as well. The babies are so freakin' adorable I just want to eat their faces off. This morning, we had a young buck mule deer in our front yard, which is kind of odd. One of my cats was freaked out all puffed up while the deer was curious and kept getting closer to her. Meanwhile, my 20 pound monster cat kept stalking it through the grass. He really looked like he thought he was a mountain lion or something. It was entertaining.

Na, TV is for people who don't have anything going on in their real life, so they have to watch other people pretend to be interesting.
