That sounds much more reasonable than what I always thought:
"Line 1, mighty fine."

That's what I thought it sounded like...until someone told me about the date theory. And that date (9/1/95) is believable since No Code came out in Aug 1996. holy crap! is No Code already 10 years old?!?
My little sister swears there's a conspiracy behind it. That Stone was actually saying "I'm one mighty fine..." but got cut off before he could trumpet his awesomeness. Like the cutoff music at the Oscars or something...

I just used this line as a joke (albeit bad one) at the recording studio I was in where much of No Code was actually recorded in Chicago (CRC). So I'm almost certain I know what the line is and the context. I figured that it was probably confusing for most, so I looked up to see what people thought and found this thread.
When a band is split up into separate isolation booths, the studio engineer has to make sure that their individual headphone monitors are working and mixed appropriately. It was most likely Stone's response to the engineers question about his levels.
Engineer: "how are the levels guys"
Stone: "Line one, mighty fine"
McCready (perhaps): "Line two, good"
Ament:......etc
Pearl Jam has kept accidental and erroneous stuff on other work they've done with Brendan O'Brien like the gunshot sound at the end of Brain of J from McCready dropping a guitar. During editing, little clips always end up landing in weird places. Sometimes you just leave it.
We're recording our first full length and I'm tempted to make a spoof of this on one of our tracks, but that is probably a little too hokey.

yeah for some reason I always thought he said that too. But "9-1-95" makes sense.

Hey, if I was as kick-ass as Stone, I'd speak in fragments too.
