-Does anyone have any great suggestions for must-see or must-do things there.... besides the obvious.
La Push, hiking the Wonderland, skydiving and Seattle are def. planned, but any other strange or non-touristy suggestions are appreciated.

And, I want to pop my surfing cherry- any spots?

Thanks a shit-ton!

Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula is a neat place to spend a couple days.

If you like wine, go to Woodinville - Seattle suburban industrial complex with all sorts of awesome wineries (no grapes grown, but all the work is done there).

What are you into? There's a lot to do out there. Post up some of your interests so the locals can make the best suggestions. 8-)

i live in the outskirts of rainforest.
mostly i moved here because it's so beautiful.
huge trees, mountains, ocean, all in one spot.
elk, black bears, orcas, eagles, salmon... many more.
incredible ecosystems that'll blow your mind if you're a biologist/naturalist.
    trees hundreds of feet tall.
they seem slightly smaller than a redwood tree.
douglas fir 1,000 years old all day long.
except when some pricks hacked them down for 200 years.
pacific red cedar... forget about it.
fern gully is everywhere, wolves & cougar tumble rolling.
waterfalls require drinking, walk in... wet boots and asses.

    i love the salamanders, snails/slugs.
banana slugs are a must see.

    eagles soaring/diving/fishing/fighting
under a mountainous rainy sky fulla trees
is a terrible time for meditation and writing.

    orca/whales:
being in the presence of orcas and gray whales is numbing.
beached decomposing sperm whales are huge & stink worse than shit.

    marijuana:
the pacific northwest can be equaled to humbolt county ca, i am sure of it.
portland, oregon has smoking systems that will create new worlds inside of you.

surfing: wetsuits, hippy bumper stickers, dreadlocks, beanie hats, dogs,
    driftwood fires.

    beach combing:
rock collecting, shells, bowls of smiles.
sea gulls, black birds, marine birds.

no one here has a/c unless they're nuts.
maybe 80 degrees a few weeks a year.
    usually it's raining.
residents need extra vitamin D, sun lacking.

i read where 12 feet of rain per year is considered a rainforest.
the olympics get around an average of 15 feet of rain a year.

Thanks for the suggestions on here and all the pm's- much appreciated.

I am very much an 'outdoors' kind of person and enjoy adventure, but also love wine and quirky, eclectic shops.
I am going mid-september so I can take full advantage of the hopefully not-so-rainy season. :D

If I could handle all that rain, it just sounds awesome. Well, it is awesome. I've been there, but I mean, living there. I get 1 foot of annual rainfall and more sun than I know what to do with. For the last month though, we've seen record rain and it reminds me of Washington.

i hear he makes cedar/fir shelters to keep dry.
i once smoked a homemade bong with the big guy.
we used snowmelt water to fill the bong.
rubbed sticks together and used flint to light dry twigs to flame the fucker up.

North Cascades – Sahale Arm trail. http://www.nps.gov/noca/planyourvisit/cascade-pass-trail.htm

This is the pound-for-pound champion of pacific northwest dayhikes. It’s a demanding trail but the payoff is outstanding. This is one of the few hikes I did on three separate occasions while living out there. If you are up to the task and the weather is nice, you cannot go wrong with this hike.

Note: The first several miles of the trail are never ending switch-backs through a forest. After that, you get to walk through heaven.

  • A shame-less bump. Just about a month to go!!! Woohoo!!!

Just bought a new SLR to take on the trip- pretty stoked about all the photo-ops out there.

Any other suggestions of must-see, must-do's from personal experience?
  • Not sure if you're into seafood, but it was most excellent when I went earlier this year to Seattle.

Don't know how long you will be here, I really like Leavenworth, their Oktoberfest is second to the one in Germany. http://www.leavenworth.org/modules/page ... p?pageid=1 (I love eating at the Soup Cellar)

Hoh Rainforest http://www.hohrainforest.com/ (I will be camping here at the end of September/early October)

If you are going to Anacortes to visit the Islands (http://www.sanjuanisland.org/) you might as well go to Vancouver and see Stanley Park http://www.seestanleypark.com/ (don't forget your passport!)

ok, one more...if you're gonna be here around Sept 18, Red Hook is having SausageFest http://www.redhook.com/Default.aspx?p=41
if you're gonna go out to Woodinville for wine, might as well stop by the brewery for some beer too...$1 for 5 samples of beer!

Trey's wines are phenomenal but Walla Walla is 4 hours away and should be a separate trip entirely since it deserves more than a day (IMHO). Where are you staying? What days are you here from/to?

p.s.- don't go to Pyramid Brewery. If you want to go to some killer breweries I can make some recommendations. If you go to Woodinville for wine tasting PM me... I will let you know which ones are a must see and which are a waste of time.

And, who doesn't like a good wink? ;)
