Sound / Acoustics in Boston & NY (tour in general)

I was at the Boston and MSG 2 shows, and I thought the sound was awful at both. Eddie sounded muted and the music sounded distorted and jumbled. Boston I sat front row balcony straight away, and in NY I was right next to the sound board. NY was a little better, but still terrible.

At first I thought that maybe I'm just too old and my ears are shot, but I've heard some of the Boston songs on PJ Radio and they sound horrible. Eddie sounds muted and the music sounds flat and monotone.

I keep reading about how Eddie's voice sounds better than it has in years and how the band sounds amazing this tour, but its tough for me to judge since I don't really feel like I heard them at all... really disappointing.
Been to lots of shows. I love shows...

  • I was at Columbus, Indy, Cleveland and Buffalo.

I had 10c tickets for Columbus and Cleveland. Both sounded amazing, I felt. Columbus, I don't know, there was something really special for me about that show. Columbus was one of the best sounding shows I've ever been to, pearl jam or otherwise.

Indy and Buffalo I was seated further back. Things were a bit quieter, but I still thought they sounded good.
  • I was at Hartford, Newark, and MSG1 and thought the sound was very good at all of them. In any arena that size, you're bound to have some spots that don't sound as good as others, but I was pleased at each one. Didn't have amazing seats for any of them, either.

Eddie did sound better than he has in quite a while. I thought the whole band sounded way, way better than at MSG2 in 2008.

BRISTOW: seats were 3 or 4 rows in front of the soundboard, and the sound from there was good.

Hartford: I wasn't quit half-way back on the floor, and the sound was good.

Newark: i was 2nd row center, and the sound was REAL good. OBVIOUSLY.

Both MSG shows: basically the same seats. Just behind the soundborad, and the sound was just OK, at best.

Like another posted, it depends alot of times where you're at. Especially at a ARENA show. Hell, even the Amphitheaters can be like that.

I was seated in the 300 level in columbus and it sounded great. My cousin came with and this was his ninth show my first and he said that the Columbus show was the best they had sounded.

Maybe it was because it was my first show but i think Columbus was a great show. I can't wait for the bootleg to get here so i can listen again.
    My butt itches!
  • I thought the sound was hideous at every PJ show I've been to. I was in front of the soundboard in Philly and it sounded like the band was playing at the bottom of the grand canyon. I couldn't make out any of the songs until a minute or two in. Absolutely horrible.

We were in 211 at MSG2 and I thought the sound was pretty good - loud and clear. :)

In section 18 at Newark and it sounded great, but I probably wasn't in a clear state of mind that night to be judging sound quality. ;) And by the way, was it just me or were there a lot of Silent Bob & Jay look-a-likes at that show?

I must say Gibson Amp for LA3&4 2009 was the most incredble sound quality I've heard for any show by anyone, anywhere.

I agree with the LA shows... They were perfect and it comes out in the boots...
MSG shows were not perfect but were pretty good for the garden...

I went to KC (Sprint Center) and STL (Scottrade) and I thought both shows sounded fantastic. I've been to a shitload of concerts in my day and the sound at these was very crisp and clear. No complaints at all.
