White Album: #9, Me & My Monkey, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Savoy Truffle, Good Night

Happiness is a Warm Gun is one of the best on the White Album.

And people...have you forgot about Jimi's masterpiece? Electric Ladyland. Double album. I don't find any filler on that.

Pardon my ignorance - I didn't realize it was a double album. I only have it on CD - and there's only 1 disc. I still stand by my point that just about all of them have some filler. Shit, some of PJ's single albums have at least one somewhat subpar song, at least IMO (say, Big Wave from my beloved Avocado, not to mention Vitalogy's filler). Save these for the "Lost Dogs 2" album and trim the fat for the regular albums.

Pearl Jam circa 96-00: yes, bring on the double album

Pearl Jam post 02: nope, they're too obsessed with straight forward garage rock right now to put out something that would stay interesting for that length of time
Indeed sir! Absolutely no sleight on the band at all but I don't think the creativity level required to pull this off is there now. They're in a happier place now and a happy double album would be too much. The Smashing Pumpkins got it right with Mellon Collie.. but they couldn't achieve that now. However if Vitalogy and No Code had been recorded in the same sessions and produced a double album it would be the greatest double album..........

    ............EVER!!! :D

So true!! But then again, which song would be starting the album? Sometimes or Last Exit? Or maybe one would start disc 1 and the other disc 2? What a killer double album it would've been!!!!

i LIKE where this is going. i challenge some intrepid soul to reimagine ALL of the songs on vitalogy and no code as one huge double album. sequence them and give the beast a name...

    Sorry, I don't think it's a good idea.

I can only think of one really great double album, with no filler: Physical Graffiti. And that had a lot of leftover material from older albums.

Here are some other ones that people mention, and the filler on those:
White Album: #9, Me & My Monkey, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Savoy Truffle, Good Night
Tommy: Holiday Camp, Fiddle About, Sally Simpson...
Quadrophenia: Tracks 4-8 are rather painful
The Wall: TONS of filler - actually only about 10 good songs out of 26 tracks

Foo Fighters had a double album called In Your Honor. If they just took the 13 best songs it would've been an amazing single album; instead it was an ok double album.

Metallica's Load & Reload were almost 80 minutes each, and grew incredibly painful towards the end.

Point is, just keep the albums to the 40-50 minute range, please.

I totally agree with your disagreeing. most double lps are so bloated and could have been masterpieces had they dropped the ego and kept just the really great songs.i think that most of these double lps from bands are made right after their breakthrough album, or that really great lp that everyone loves. they think that everything they do is the shit and thus put everything out. i mean maybe the Metallica Load+Reload thing might have been a business decision, who knows (imo made sense $$ wise, but not artisically.).

PJ skip the double lp and give us a covers lp! This is a great idea and everyone knows it.

Only problem with this theory is that this is about 3 years worth of PJ's ideas in their prime. A double album now would be their latest ideas, sad to say, a bit past their prime. And, yes, I trimmed some fat off of both albums. Sue me.

id prefer a normal double album or something like melon collie by pumpkins

Agree, awesome and strong album! It would have to be as good as Mellon Collie to be worth doing. something dramatic, where all the songs sound like Love, Reign O'ver Me and Black and Release, with a few spin The Black Circles and Rearview Mirror's thrown in. Fuck, it really would have to be big, and the man for the job? RICK RUBIN... hurry the fuck up and get RICK RUBIN on board!

A double album? You're kidding - they struggled to go past the 30 minute mark with the last one!

I'm talking an EPIC (not that any of their previous albums aren't epic ;) ) thematic double album, such as Quadrophenia, Tommy, The Wall, etc. I would love to see the next album turn out this way, what do you guys think?

    Of course!!!

Hell yeah I would love to see that as a fanboy.
But, in reality, I probably wouldn't because most double albums could be boiled down to one album.
If any band could pull it off and make two discs worth of great stuff though it would definitely be PJ
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

I've been wanting a double album from them for years. I think they could totally pull it off. I mean they have 5 very talented songwriters in the band and, at their best, they're unstoppable. I think double albums are great opportunities for bands to really stretch out and explore some different ideas.

I love when this band, or any other band for that matter, pushes themselves out of their comfort zone. I mean look what the Flaming Lips did last year with Embryonic. Un-fucking-believable album. However you get bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers that put out one of their most boring albums with 20+ songs of "blah". I think our boys are more then ready for the challenge. Then again I'm one of those guys that falls into the camp of "the more Pearl Jam the better".
