the front porch chimes
dance and sing their majestic song in the breeze
the rain falls hard
to wash clean dirty streets
and cool off the evening from a long days sun

the warm beer tastes like tears
the piano song flows from the speakers
maybe I should follow the advice of the wise man
and pull out of this town full of losers
and go find my very own place to win

nostalgia flows over me
some good, some bad,
some happy and some sad
leaving me with a feeling of not belonging
knowing I was born at the wrong time

the big man plays his sax
the notes travel up my spine
and the drummer hits me with a double shot
the rain river moves down the street
as the feeling builds inside of me

lost years
lost time
lost friends
lost love
lost souls

“you can’t save everybody”
is what she said
“you can’t tow their line”
she was right as usual
I can’t even save myself

I can’t remember how their voices sound
I can’t remember what it felt like to be
in their presence
I no longer feel their love
maybe I never did

if I could have one wish
it would be 5 minutes more with each of them
to set things right
to feel that love just one more time
and learn to take it with me

it is what it is
and this is what is left
this is all I have
the wind, the rain, a warm beer and the music
I guess that will have to do
Peace, Love.

    very well done ...

being Memorial Day this very much brings back memories about my Dad and Uncle (love and miss you both) after the parades at the bbq talking about their WWII stories and the buddies they lost
