Binaural-Backspacer

This also includes how they are live, not just album-wise. But I'm gonna have to say Binaural and up. Lately I've been digging their later stuff over their old stuff, especially live and especially all of their B sides.

Lol no, I love all of their albums, I just prefer their newer stuff. It's not even because of Matt really, it's because I got into pearl jam in 06. The first PJ albums I bought were binaural and riot act at once.

You can't do it Ten-Yield because their sound and live experience changed so much during that time, not to mention the drastic changes with every new drummer.

Now, now... that's not fair. Just look at my list posted below of my favorite albums:
    CJMST3K wrote:
Ten + VS + Vitalogy + No Code + Backspacer.

    All four drummers are represented:
    Krusen, Abbruzzese, Abbruzzese, Irons, Cameron.

I would say those 5 albums are my favorite, and ALL drummers are represented in my favorite list.

    Looking at your list:
(I'm typing all the albums in your list out below)
Binaural + Riot Act + Avocado + Backspacer

Only albums from a particular drummer make your list:
    Cameron, Cameron, Cameron, Cameron

    ...partial much? :P

But in all seriousness, you've made it known that you adore Matt Cameron, even so much that you made "Matt Cameron shits on Dave A" your signature for quite a while. ...you're extremely partial to Matt Cameron. And that's ok. That's your preference. :)

Lol no, I love all of their albums, I just prefer their newer stuff. It's not even because of Matt really, it's because I got into pearl jam in 06. The first PJ albums I bought were binaural and riot act at once.

That's understandable. I'd say there is a generational gap too. I think you were about 1 year old when Ten came out and 3 years old when VS came out, right? Your first experience with PJ was with their newer, later sound. And if the "later sound" is what you were first exposed to, then it makes sense you'd like it best. Similar in ways to how people who saw Roger Moore as their first James Bond prefer him over Sean Connery. Or people who's first The Who album had Kenney Jones on drums preferred him over Keith Moon, or people who's first AIC album had William DuVall prefer him over Layne Staley.

I would be curious to know if we took you at age 15, and dropped you into the year 1993, if you would even have liked pearl jam at all. Their later sound is so much different, so it's just a curiosity. :)

...and I'd say Backspacer is their best album since Vitalogy. :D

Hey man I was 2 going on 3 when ten came out!

When I got into PJ I didn't even care for Matt at all. I thought he was boring. Then I remember reading that he was amazing in SG. so then I listened to soundgarden and his style of playing gradually started making more sense and one day I guess I just "got it". Then I started paying more attention to his playing in pj and realized how dumb I was for not liking his playing. And I'm sorry, if you don't dig his playing in 2000 I think you're just crazy lol. His angular and brutal aproach from that time was unbelievable IMO.

Anyway so yea I like binaural-backspacer. And btw that had nothing to do with Matt when I posted that. It was more of once Matt came, they finally found their style and direction especially in their live shows. People seem to associate binaural and up as "current" PJ.

my favorite was Roger Moore growing up, but after watching Bond reruns on t.v. the last couple of years, i think he's terrible, Sean Connery's the man. Altho for your eye's only will always be my favorite bond movie and easily Rogers best performance. sorry about changing the subject.

Hey man I was 2 going on 3 when ten came out!

 Ok... ok... :D I was a year off.

I've liked Matt Cameron's playing on his own songs. The odd-timed cymbal strikes gets a bit predictable, but the songs he's written with them have been very well created.

And in sorry, if you don't dig his playing in 2000 I think you're just crazy lol. His angular and brutal aproach from that time was unbelievable IMO.

I very much enjoy his playing. Not on the early music, but on his own music. I am indeed crazy, but it's pronounced cra-zaaaay.

And btw that had nothing to do with Matt when I posted that. It was more of once Matt came, they finally found their style and direction especially in teir live shows.

I made the assumption that your "Matt Cameron shits on Dave A" was a slam at Dave A... I think you can understand why people would see it that way.

I think PJ has more formalized their shows in the last 10 years. We can predict the moment (down to the minute almost) when they step off stage for each encore break. I suppose I also enjoy how raw and intense their shows used to be. Its why I was willing to pay $50 for a bad audience bootleg back then, but now struggle to justify spending $10 on a recent one. They have become more professional entertainers in the last decade, though in exchange lost a bit of that raw-ness.

Ok... back on topic for this derailed train. :)
