JEFF BUCKLEY - A TRIBUTE

Today marks the 13th anniversary since the tragic passing of Jeff Buckley. Although he left us his beautiful music it's hard to not feel selfish and long for more, and wonder what could've been had he survived that fateful accident. 13 long years, and countless hours dedicated to listening in awe to that voice of an angel.
I wish i had had the privilege of seeing him live before he died, but some things weren't meant to be, instead i'll happily take what he's left behind and remember him every once in a while, knowing full well that there can never be another.

MISS YOU, WISH YOU WERE HERE

I had the pleasure of seeing Jeff in 1994 at Toad's Place in New Haven, CT. He had one of the greatest voices in rock at the time and his live show did not disappoint. Surprisingly, his last song that night was a cover of the MC5's Kick Out the Jams. I was at MSG II and thought PJ's version was amazing, but it reminded me of that night, in a club of less than 150 people, seeing a very talented singer/songwriter who was on his way to greatness and whose life was snuffed out way before it should have. As Eddie would say raising a bottle of his Pinot Noir, "Here's to ya, Jeff, wherever you are."

Sadly i never saw him. Yesterday i went to work & i am lucky enough to be able to put on my own music & i put on My Sweetheart the Drunk & i was looking through the liner notes & it was 13 years to day he drowned. I knew it was around May but didn't know it was that day. I like moments like that. Great voice & songwriter.

for me, his early death is perhaps the most tragic in music. as talented as he was, the diversity and range he brought to his work, i desperately wish i could've followed his career across the decades. only one proper album from him is totally heartbreaking. i guess i should be glad that we have as much ancillary stuff as we do (mystery white boy, my sweetheart the drunk, the sin-e stuff) but DAMN - i want another record!
