I just want to know why there wasn't a remedy for this type of accident in place before it happened. Have these companies not figured out all the WHAT IF's and answers to them? Obviously not. It's one of the things I teach my kids...to expect the unexpected and "don't be scared, be preapred" is a motto I've been teaching them since they could understand.

I'm no expert in this field, or many fields, for that matter, but what I know is that before I implement something, I'm going to try to conceive how it can go wrong. I know all things cannot be considered, but a freaking LEAK!!??!! like this was not even thought of during ALL THESE YEARS of drilling??

I'm not getting why this leak has not been stopped and I hope that other companies are beginning to implement some division to look into quicker remedies.

I feel so badly for the people who make their living on the water in that area and will be devastated by this for years to come.

it's because of political corruption and how corporations control government. had this rig operated in norway they would've been required to use an acoustical trigger that would have shut off the pipe if it sense enough vibration but thanks to the dergeulations of the bush administration industries were allowed to get lots of rules lifted.

then add to that the obama administration issuing all sorts of waivers, including one to BP in april of 2009 exempting them from doing any sort of environmental impact study or anything like that for this rig....which since this rig sank at least 27 such waivers have been granted

there's monsanto execs and lawyers in the fda and usda, merck execs at the cdc....

That's what I've been wondering since the accident. Why were they not prepared? Or why didn't they have a solution? My guess is they have a solution, but the solution is very expensive and they are going to try the cheaper techniques first. The people who make they're living in the area are in for some tough times unfortunately. Let's not forget the families of the 11 who lost their lives just trying to earn a living, never hear much said about them, RIP.

i'm saying accountability needs to stop being a partisan issue, until the people demand more they will be stuck with these kinds of shmohawks but there's far too many party loyalists that think what the other team does is the worst thing ever then looks the other way when their team does it....people need to see past the partisan bullshit and start working together but the people like rove want everyone fighting each other instead of working for real solutions

Pepe couldn't be more correct. And anytime someone uses the word "shmohawks" it's hard to not be on their side.

Why have they stopped searching for and attempting measures to STOP the leak, not just reduce the amount leaking???!!! THAT is what I'd like to know.
