Was it? Because I watched that concert they had on Palladia the other day and I was not impressed. The band sounded great, but Scott was not good. Plus they play one or two songs from the new record and like 8 from Core and Purple. Just the hits.

I caught that concert on Palladia too and thought the same thing. The band was good, but Scott did not sound good at all. That show was from Chicago in March, so I dont think they would be playing many new songs at that point.

I actually thought that the performance wasn't all that bad.

I wasn't too fond of Dean's solo there, but Scott, sweating like all hell, sang alright.

Just watched a video of Big Empty.....didn't sound bad to me. Scott does seem to have lost that spark he had on stage though. I know people change and all, but when you compare recent videos with how he was back about ten years ago, he just doesn't seem as into it as he was back then. It's almost like his confidence has taken a knock or something, or maybe his heart's just not in it. Either way I hope he can work his shit out, because when he's on form he's pretty much untouchable as a frontman.

*edit* Just watched the video of Between The Lines - I actually think that was a decent performance, Scott seemed a bit more into it, and his vocals sounded pretty much identical to the album version to my ears.

Just watched the performance on Kimmel and I think you are crazy, they sounded good.

Way better than Pearl jam on Conan for sure. I don't understand people's need to hate things so much they distort the truth or they see things so different from reality. They sounded just fine.

i just watched 2 songs on youtube, i thought between the lines sounded good (though a part reminded me of a nirvana song) but i thought big empty sounded pretty awful

I think scotts voice is great live, even when it is "bad". Definitely don't understand the hate for his voice live.

How so? Scott's vocals lacked a bit of oomph, but he wasn't out of tune or anything. Band sounded tight as ever....

I don't hate them. I love STP. Didn't see the Kimmel performance but the Palladium concert was off, that's all I was saying.

Agree on the PJ on Conan comment. Album version blows that away.

Yeah, I wasn't referring to you as I have not seen the performance you were talking about.

It's really funny though, sometimes these night shows, etc can really make a good band sound terrible (ie PJ on Conan....I liked it but it was not good). I've only watched "Between the Lines" from Kimmel's show and I thought it was damn good.

i just thought his singing on that song sucked, you can categorize it as 'lacking oomph' but i say he just didn't perform the song very well. it's like hearing insignificance now where mike stopped playing his parts and just plays a double rhythm guitar with stone, it just seems very sub par

Maybe it's the fact he's clean now? He's said on a few occasions that "heroin made him comfortable in his own skin" and allowed him to be himself on stage. Now that he's off the dope, he might be a little more reserved.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

STP are hit and miss live. Scott's performances are extremely variable, recent reports suggests that he has been hammered on stage lately. They also play very little in the way of new material live ... Or old material, for that matter. Good for people who like nothing but the old hits from Core and Purple, I suppose.

I agree. I saw STP on Kimmel and it was horrible. Scott wasn't that great, and the drums and guitar solo really stunk.

Then they played Vasoline as the second song. Don't bands get sick of playing hit after hit?

Personally it's the rest of the band I don't like. The guitarist looks like some corporate rock star from nickelback, and their drummer plays like a cornball trying to look cool. Watch his playing, and then watch someone like Matt Cameron, Carter Beauford, Danny Carey, or any other well established drummer play.

I just watched the new kimmel performance online and it wasn't awful but it wasn't all that great. But yeah I gotta agree STP live is really hit or miss. I went to see them at Jones Beach a couple of years back and they were alright. They weren't great but at that point I was just happy I got to see a show back then supposedly a few shows didn't happen cause scott was too fucked up to perform.
