String Quartet = Parting Ways

Where's it been? Seriously. You can't play all those shows and have strings there and not pull it out more often, once last year and nothing this year. Lame.

    it was so good last year it almost made my cry... pretty much my fav PJ song and with strings just awesome. This is a song they need to play a lot more.

    Parting Ways in Philly was one of the highlights of the Philly experience for me.

    I agree with the OP. Having the strings and not taking advantage of the chance to pplay Parting Ways is a shame.

    I've been wondering the same thing.
    My girl & I were coming up with ideal setlists and I had Just Breathe into Parting Ways as a great segue back from the quiet acoustic into the climactic electric, with the strings carrying over.

    I've never been that into the idea of using strings and backup singers and other gimmicks ... But yeah, if you're going to do it, why not play Parting Ways more often? One of my favorites.

    Lukin with strings was a gimmick, no doubt.

    Fair enough. Maybe "frills" was a better word to use ... I like PJ with guitars, bass, and drums. I am a close-minded purist when it comes to their music. 8-) The numerous versions of Parting Ways from 2000, without the strings, sounded great to me ears ... Ditto with Just Breathe more recently. Neither song sounds bad with the strings, of course. On the other hand, Lukin played fast, with strings, was just kinda wrong. Slow Lukin is quite solid.

    I'm with you there. Part of my falling in love with this band live was how stripped back they were. It was just these 5 guys on stage with their instruments. Now there is 4 others up there with their own instruments. I like it, but it's a waste of time if you're not going to do Parting Ways more often. Or experiment a bit more like with slow Lukin.

    parting ways in philly with strings was extraordinary. to the dude who's been saying the band was sloppy in the philly shows, go listen to this and come talk to me. perfection. one of the best live song experiences i ever had.
