my wife and i would like to plan a trip down.....anyone ever been? nice hotels/places to avoid? thinking maybe a week with a lengthy drive down from NY. thanks

My husband and I used to go every year just after Labor Day to avoid crowds. It's great, and not overly commercial so going in the summer will still be really laid back. I'd look into renting a house or a condo. We used to rent the same condo every year and it was great. It's usually way less expensive than a week in a hotel, and you have a full kitchen. There are great websites that will connect you to rental agencies. Make sure they're clear about proximity to the beach.

I've been two or three times. stayed here all two of the three and loved it. right on the beach, nice pool, and kick ass Tiki Hut bar on the beach with live music !!

but not crazy with kids !!
