Pearl Jam/Nirvana 90s and now

Hi everyone, I was just thinking about this after seeing Pearl Jam in Indy for my second show. It seems to me that compared to videos on youtube of Pearl Jam from the early 90s that they pretty much still have the same energy in shows (maybe not as much as in some videos I have seen, 20 years older does that I guess). I was just wondering what anyone who has seen Nirvana live or was old enough (I was born in 90 so I know the music but it was pretty much over before I knew what was happening) when grunge was big, do you think, had Nirvana lasted, they would still be touring like Pearl Jam or would that have just ended for them? Just a random thought if anyone has anything to add, thanks.

I doubt they would still be together. They were on the verge of breaking up when Kurt offed himself. The last tours they did in late 93-early 94 were boring and paint-by-numbers...nothing like the energy around the time "Nevermind" was released.

i agree with the above post...but the opening to smells like teen..will always be one ofthe song of the 90's..

and im not a big fan of them..but that opening is shit hot..everyone knows it
  • I slightly agree. Nobody knows what the future can hold. Kurt did write in his suicide note "Its better to burn out than to fade away" He didn't want to do Nirvana anymore.

IMO Nirvana went out they way the should have. Kurt could not/will not get old. To make an odd comparison...Axl, if he would have done what Kurt did, would have gone down as THE greatest front man ever. Now he's a joke. Kurt will never be a joke

on a side note...Eddie never was and never will be a joke IMO
  • No one knows. It may be fun to speculate, but no one knows. Remember Pearl Jam didn't tour the US for years... then they matured it, and weren't quite as principled, and accepted Ticketmaster. Kurt might have mellowed out too and learned to embrace his fans... something he had a hard time doing - accepting the fact that jerks he hated in high school were suddenly his fans. I mean Dave Grohl has certainly embraced the whole rock star thing - the Foos kick ass live, maybe Kurt would've come around to. Also, Nirvana Unplugged is one of the greatest recorded shows ever IMO. Look at how he sings "where did you sleep last night" - simply incredible, the raw energy. I think it could've happened.

The sad reality is that Kurt was a severe drug addict. Pearl Jam (for the most part) avoided drugs
