  • Great spotlight on poster artists. We had a blast!
Not many PJ "deals", but posters were still selling like hot cakes.
So cool to meet so many talented artists!

the diversity in style within the poster community is INCREDIBLE! you can really see what a difficult task it is for PJ to divy up the work between so many competant artists

and what a dream job for those people! (i can only assume)

would love to know what it takes to intern for one of those companies and do that some day :D

    thanks for the pics

I have wanted to design poster/album art since high school (1990) and my dreams were crushed by most people, cuz they just laughed at me. Anyway, I did get to talk to Mark Jamotillo, and I picked his brain a bit, he told me that he went to school for graphic art, he started out designing apparel and networked with other people. He told me to just get to know people, networking is the biggest key, and designing a poster for PJ just kinda was handed to him. It isn't like a full time job, it's mainly freelance work when you start. I still have some posters I made way back then, and I designed a few shirts for my old job. Now, I just need to go back to school for GA, and throw up a website. I'm sure you could call up one of the artists and see if you can hang out and see what they do, I'm so damn shy, I don't have the guts to do that!

Folks have tried to do east coast shows with varying results ... from good to cancelled.

It's just tough because so many of these guys are from the west coast (SF, Portland, Seattle), they aren't big fans of lugging all their posters across country ... there are many stories about stacks of posters getting ruined or lost.

The closets thing to a sure bet is the Flatstock event at ACL every year, or the one at the Pitchfork music festival coming up in July in Chicago.

Haha! Just messing with you D! I know that there are almost a million people in Nova Scotia and that it's the fourth-least-populous province in Canada.
