I Need Some Poster Storage Suggestions!

I am sure plenty of us out there have our precious posters in tubes, and that this is a bad No-no.

I need help/suggestions in getting them into the proper storage until I can get them framed.

What do you suggest? Where can I get it? That is what I need to know.

Any other tips, suggestions, and helpful hints will be greatly appreciated.

I am sure that there are many here amongst us that can use this information.

i'm not sure how many posters that you've got to store, but if you're around the 25 or less range, you could do what i did. i went to office max and bought one of those big cardboard folding presentation boards, and a couple of those large heavy black paper clips that teachers seems to always be using. i lay the posters flat in the presentation board, fold the flaps closed, and then clip them shut to hold everything tight and flat. cheap and effective!!

    here's the presentation board:

Here's a pretty decent 24x36 portfolio for around $30 (it won't fit all of the posters, but many fit fine)....

Always tons of discussions about this on expressobeans ...

    Here's a thread all about 24" x 36" portfolios.

    http://forum.expressobeans.com/viewtopi ... &start=285

The one that seems to come up the most in that size is by Picturesque.

They are sold at Jerry Artarama and ASW Warehouse. Note, there's a thread on expressobeans dedicated to coupons, ASW sends out coupon codes every few weeks, follow this thread for the most recent coupons ...

    http://forum.expressobeans.com/viewtopi ... &start=165

Portfolios also come in smaller sizes, not sure what your needs are ... in smaller sizes, the brand Itoya is the one to go with (they don't make a 24 x 36)

A few pics of my 24 x 36 ... and yes, I use framing corners to ensure the prints don't move around, but, not everyone does that. I don't do that with my 18 x 24 portfolio.

I have a flat file pretty much exactly like this.
    http://www.flatfiles.net/images/steel%2 ... torage.JPG

Got it at a place that sells used furniture and what-not for $50. They are generally very expensive, so you would want to look around. You need a decent about of room for it too. Works for me though.

just make a portfolio out of cardboard/matteboard/foamcore/etc. and line the inside with acid free paper...

throw the whole thing in a garbage bag to keep out the dust and put it under the bed...

    total cost... $10-$15 :D

(if the ultimate goal is to eventually get them framed then theres no point in spending good frame $ on a portfolio)

I also have this big, but the sleeves are getting pricey. The smaller one I linked is perfect for a lot of the posters.

roller marks from being stored in tubes.

tubes are for shipping, not storing.

Depending on the paper, ink and heat/humidity concerns ... some inks can crack if rolled too long, some paper may be irreversibly curled making it extremely tough to frame, or it could start to wrinkle.

I use two big pieces of thick cardboard and store the posters in them and then keep it between my mattress and boxspring. I know it's not ideal, but I'm too poor from buying posters to afford proper storage. :|

I've just been storing all my posters (and my dad's 60s posters) in a cardboard foldy thing he was using.
I am buying that 24X36 thing immediately!
