The Mob Rules

In the event of Ronnie James Dio passing away, I've been rotating my Dio collection heavily. I think it's safe for me to now declare my favorite piece of work he contributed to. The Mob Rules.

It's perfect from start to finish for something that Dio should be fronting. The songs are arranged in just the right order, and just the instrumental work on it floors me everytime I listen to it. Dio's vocal performance is top fucking notch (much like it is on Rainbow's "Rising"), specifically The Sign Of The Southern Cross. That tune is so haunting, so dark that I can't think of any singer who could have aced it like Ronnie did. To follow up an album like Heaven and Hell as powerfully as they did is definitely a peak in all their careers.

The Mob Rules: Easily one of the richest metal albums ever released.
