Hey all, was at the tremendous show last nite - my 19th PJ gig overall, and ended up to be one of the lucky "3" who caught one of Matt's drumsticks he threw into Sec 67 after Yellow Ledbetter... That made a tremendous show all the more special for me.

Question out there, has anyone here ever caught one of Matt's sticks in the past and if so, how have you gone about displaying it ? One thought was to somehow frame it the the show poster - which i was able to procure as well.

Thanks

PS.
oh, and I'm waiting on the withdrawal symptoms to kick in shortly

My friend had a drum stick from Crowded House which he framed with the tour poster in a frame which had a second framed section underneath. The frame was deeper to house the stick. It looked really well done but the frame cost so much money. I cant remember the amount he paid but it was not pretty

As a professional framer, and a drummer, I'm glad to give my two copper coins. :)

If you bring your poster to a local reputable frame shop and have your poster matted and framed... and if you choose a deeper frame than normal, the matting can be recessed to leave room on top of the matting for the stick, or an additional opening can be created in the matting below the poster showing the stick.

It would be important to convey to the framer that you don't want any adhesives or glues used. The frame shop can attach the stick to the matting by sewing it down with clear nylon thread, which would make it 100% removable if in the future you want to remove it completely with no residue remaining.

Vic Firth drumsticks are made with American Hickory, which I believe is a softer wood than Japanese Oak drumsticks, making then dent-able. So, you may want to take a small towel and roll it over the stick and wrap a rubberband around it, just to keep it from getting damaged before framing.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

I know a guy that caught a Danny Carey drumstick and framed it up with the show poster. Looked great!! Funny thing, it was a broken stick just not completely split and it got stuck in DC's hair as he was throwing it, and the guy made sure to keep the hairs in it.
