It's just hours before the morning light
I sit here, alone
numbness fills the air and consumes my body
I can see the shiny piece of metal
reflecting the pale moon
before that leaves me behind, too
I lick the tip
Taste the coolness on my tongue and lips
A tear trickles down my beaten cheek
I don't know what else to do
it seems like the last resort
Even if this lasts me but a few short days
that maybe all that I need
all that is left
The smell of blood makes my stomach turn
a few droplets spatter on the cement
I stop for a second
glance at the fading light
it seems to be staring back at me
laughing at my shaken eyes
more tears rolls
I regain focus
things will be different
they must be different
I take a breath
the strong scent of iron lingers in the air
I try to steady my hands
I drag the needle along my chest
I wet it
carefully straighten it and string it through
blood and memories chase eachother down the thread
until it is collected within the knot on the end
poke
pull
push
pull
again
again
Its mended now
How long it will hold
is uncertain
but it appears
that the once shattered heart
looks new again
waiting for someone else
to rip it apart

"To question your government is not unpatriotic --
to not question your government is unpatriotic."
-- Sen. Chuck Hagel
