How were the Black Keys?

I like that band a lot. I have the last CD - which is saying something because music these days sucks so bad that Pearl Jam is almost the only thing I've bought in the last few years - and I'm anxiously awaiting the new CD as well.

I hope to see the Keys sometime this year and were curious about their show last night.

They were great! They used a couple of backup musicians for a couple of their new songs. Its a shame that the arena was only half full while they were playing; they are an awesome band!

The Keys were good. Opening bands don't get much better. Sound was loud and clear. They are a two-piece band, drummer and singer/guitarist but had bass and keyboard player for a couple new songs. Their songs are based on big, loud, bluesy guitar riffs that are very Zeppelinesque. To be honest, their stuff gets tedious to me after a few songs but they didn't overstay their welcome, playing a set of a little less than 40 minutes. I was surprised, as another poster noted, that MSG was only half full at most for their set. Figured NYC would show the Keys more love. Still, it was a very positive kick off to the evening.

i'm loving their new record, and i hope they keep the extra musicians; it really filled out their sound. i can't wait to see them as a headliner this summer (7/30 in philly). They definitely sounded great last night, which is sometimes tough for an opener who's not used to such a big room.

they opened w/new song, 10am automatic, your touch, more new songs including howlin' for you and tighten up, last song was I Got Mine - only about 8-9 songs total i think...wouldve liked to hear more off older records but i guess this was sorta the start of their "brothers" tour so they had to do it for the record company

I dig on Band of Horses (and glad to finally see them live) but I woulda LOVED to have seen the Black Keys with PJ. Haven't had a chance to hear 'Brothers' yet, but 'Attack and Release' is awesome - and Dan Auerbach's solo record 'Keep It Hid' was the best record I heard last year.

(Anybody there who is familiar with their material know if they played any of Dan's solo stuff? I would one day love to see Dan and EV trading verses on "Trouble Weighs a Ton"...or EV, if you ever see these, that would be a brilliant pre-set song. Just seed-plantin')

They were one of the more well-received opening bands I've ever seen for PJ. I wouldn't buy their CD, but they were alright for 35 minutes on stage.Sure the arena was only half-full but every concert is like that regardless of who is opening. But a lot of people were standing and really appreciating the BK. Compared to 2008 when there was that palpable feeling that Ted Leo & Co should just get off the stage and let PJ play for 3.5 hours.. they totally got it and only played for like 20 or 25 mins then.
