I didn't know there was anything significant with the #34, not knowing who Walter Payton is, but I have this self-same jersey. My dad brought it back from Chicago way back in 1986. 20 years later, I wore it to the show in Dublin. I got a fair amount of attention from Ed that night, and walked away with the last tambourine and the cork from his wine bottle. Never connected it to the jersey, until the Copenhagen show the next summer and there's Ed, right in front of me, wearing the same old #34 Bears shirt my dad gave me!

You can bet yer arse I'm going to be wearing it in Dublin in one month's time!

Thanks for those! Brings me back too - that's about the same angle I was at (though a little closer), so I must be one of those horribly off-key voices trying to match Ed on Love Reign O'er me.

I remember catching glimpses of the #34 shirt under his jacket during Throw Yr Arms... and thinking "No way! That's my shirt!!!"

So now I know it's not too uncommon...
