October Dust Devils
There are lives ending
All around me
Bodies defying
The very laws
Of gravity
Ribcage addled husks
Still spitting
In the face
Of black-robed spectres
On route
To a predictable grave
They welcome
A command from the sky
To release
Their cold clutches
And scatter gold flashes
Into a world grown drab
Wish them well
Without knowing
The time granted
Or the distance
Each one might travel
But I am envious
Of their final chance to
Witness a thrilling view
Like never experienced
Before setting down
And being laid to rest
With the final sense
Of wonderment
We all deserve
There are lives ending
All around me
Bodies defying
The very laws
Of gravity
Ribcage addled husks
Still spitting
In the face
Of black-robed spectres
On route
To a predictable grave
They welcome
A command from the sky
To release
Their cold clutches
And scatter gold flashes
Into a world grown drab
Wish them well
Without knowing
The time granted
Or the distance
Each one might travel
But I am envious
Of their final chance to
Witness a thrilling view
Like never experienced
Before setting down
And being laid to rest
With the final sense
Of wonderment
We all deserve

That's all I want.
