live Candlebox review

So I went to see Candlebox last weekend at a festival in Richardson, a northern city of the Dallas area. I’d seen them several times back in the day and I was still quite impressed with their power. They had a second guitarist with them and I gotta say it really added a lot. They opened with Don’t You and followed with what must have been a song of their 08 album which I haven’t heard, but it was AWESOME. They sounded nice and heavy and it seemed everyone around me was surprised at how much they rocked. At one point a guy in front of me turned and said “man, that guy’s got some PIPES.” Kevin Martin’s voice is really strong and powerful, he can wail like few other rock singers do. A lot of rock singers can sing, but not many can hit notes with such force the way he does. It could be easy to be annoyed by the way he struts and postures around the stage, but he truly backs it up with his performance. The first half of the show was punch after punch after punch, then I feel that there was just barely too much of a mix of unknown/new songs, slow songs, and talking. He was talking between every song too much and it started to slow things down. Just random rambling, and I’m not exaggerating but he told the audience at least 4 times that they were from Seattle. During Arrow they played an interlude with Immigrant Song, Highway to Hell, and Crazy Train, which was really cool, but even before they broke into that he did a lot of yapping. They closed with Far Behind and encored with You. They did Mostly songs from the 1st album, a couple off the 08 album and each of the others. I wish I could find the setlist but unlike just about every other semi-popular band out there NOBODY writes about or follows Candlebox online. Overall a great show. Even though I had been listening to them for about 2 weeks leading up to the show I am still rocking to them daily ever since.

That's really the only Candlebox song
I can remember, but brilliant nonetheless.
Cheers.
