Pearl Jam and Red Rocks

Why hasnt Pearl Jam played Red Rocks? They played there in 95 but havent returned. Everyone hypes up the Gorge, MSG, Boston, CHI, LA, and all the other venues but everyone neglects Red Rocks and its potential. It seems like they would be able to top all those shows but they never play there. Maybe there should be a push for it. So we could see what happens.

  • I've been asking & hoping for some Red Rocks shows for years. It would be a near perfect setting for them, in my opinion. A Vedder solo show would have been amazing there as well. I'm not giving up. I think they could realistically sell out 2-3 shows there. Hopefully it will happen in the next couple years.

Yeah an Ed show solo would be pretty f'ing sick there. And they could easily do a 2 or 3 night stand. Guess we will just have to keep waiting. Seems like such a waste though with it just sitting there every summer.

    RED ROCKS....

Funny that I should find this thread. I have never been to RR or even heard of it, until earlier. However, I was just researching the venue this morning for the TOOL shows that are coming this summer. The venue looks sweet. Can't wait. Looks like a great place to see ED or the entire band.

15 years is way too f*ckn long  . I'll have 1 hell of a party up at my place in the mountains if this ever happens again 8-) . Red Rocks is an unbelievably beautiful, majestic setting. I guarantee after parting with me before the shows ( why do only 1 show there) that your night will be magical  . My famous guacamole dip always keeps you smiling for hours ;).

Was at Red Rocks in 95 and it was a great place to see the guys. It should definitely happen again. Hell, let Ed do a solo show night 1 and then full band night 2 or something unusual like that.

I'll be there for the 2nd night. My first RR show. I've been hoping PJ would play there, but I gave up waiting!

red rocks is amazing. i saw mmj there in '08. unfortunately i doubt pj will play there for a long time if ever. they are too huge right now. it's a general admission venue. could you imagine all the pj die hards trying to get up front for that? it would be a potential disaster. it could work, but i doubt it will happen. at least not in the near future.

These were my first 2 shows. 9th row Mikes side night one. 2nd row center for night two. Not the debut for Long Road, 6/16/95 - Casper. But it was the first time they played the new Jeremy. We got there very early both days and I remember them sound checking Jeremy a bunch of times the first night. My friend and I were confused since that's a song they play so often. But it all made sense the next night when they played the new version.

the DVD of night #2 was reportedly one of the famous series of "friend of the band" video shoots taken just behnd the soundboard like the Casper 1995 and Boston Orpheum 4/12/94 DVD's..

BTW.. U2 put this venue on my radar screen with their famous "Under a Blood Red sky" concert film of their 6/5/83 concert in the puring rain...

Dave Matthews Band has two official live boots from their shows in 1995, and the entire "weekend on the rocks" shows in 2005.

    whew!

The seating arrangmement for RR varies from band to band and show to show...most shows are a combo of reserved up front with general admission in the back.

Haven't seen a show there, but I did hike around a little bit - absolutely gorgeous!

Since my sister is in the area, I'd fly out for that one.

Great thread to see this morning. Just last night I told someone I was hoping for a two night run at Red Rocks after the Europe leg, assuming they come out west. There are bigger venues (RR Is 8,000 I think, due to narrow footprint) but only one one Red Rocks. It is Mecca for hard core fans of any performer that plays there. I saw the Who at The Gorge in 2002 and the Gorge not in the same league.

It was my first PJ show in '95. Three typical seating arrangements: 1) All GA (Jam bands, and breaking bands such as My Morning Jacket); 2) All Reserved (Neil Young, more established bands with high ticket prices up front of course) 3) Mixture for about half the shows: Rows 1-24 GA, Rows 25- 60's Reserved, higher than 60's GA.

I've seen REM twice use the 3rd mixture version, but rope off the first 4 rows for Fan Club members. I would hope for a similar model for Pearl Jam, with more fan club rows, unless they went the full reserved route.

In addition to U2 and DMB previously noted, there are official Red Rocks releases for Neil Young and Stevie Nicks. Pearl Jam would be crazy not to film there.

Does anyone happen to have the unedited version of the June 20 Red Rocks show? I'm talking specifically about the very beginning of the footage which shows the crowd to the immediate left of the camera as is pans to the right and the stage. It seems that the versions on youtube cut this part out. I attended the show with my brother and a friend and seem to remember the unedited footage showing me and/or my brother as we were very near the camera which was located in the soundboard area.
