Oops, clicked on quote post too often, but that seems to be the one thing that never gets talked about in stories about this. No country will ever perfect and some worse than others, but we've never heard a word about these countries fixing the reasons for people wanting to leave in the first place.

some can rightly argue , tge US helped foster those environments , either deliberately or inadvertently.  heavy on the former. then once yhe corruption and criminality takes root its tough to get rid of. besides where else is the businesses of the U.S. gonna get all that cheap exploitable labor? theres a reason business in general balked at e-verify so adamantly.....
also a fair point which doesn't get discussed much or any at all, granted I don't read/watch every news story.
From the Biden Crime Family’s legislation sent to Congress. I’d love to compare and contrast the repub plan for immigration if anyone can point me to the legislation or its overview.

    ADDRESS ROOT CAUSES OF MIGRATION

    • Start from the source. The bill codifies and funds the President’s $4 billion four-year inter-agency plan to address the underlying causes of migration in the region, including by increasing assistance to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, conditioned on their ability to reduce the endemic corruption, violence, and poverty that causes people to flee their home countries. It also creates safe and legal channels for people to seek protection, including by establishing Designated Processing Centers throughout Central America to register and process displaced persons for refugee resettlement and other lawful migration avenues—either to the United States or other partner countries. The bill also re-institutes the Central American Minors program to reunite children with U.S. relatives and creates a Central American Family Reunification Parole Program to more quickly unite families with approved family sponsorship petitions.

That's good legislation. too bad they're "bogged down" in other nonsense and that includes the clown from NY congressional district 3.

Funny that, given that other clown in the house chamber, Marie StefI’llstickittoyou from NY is 2nd in command and has the speaker Kevin’s ear. Imagine what they could possibly achieve if they switched from using immigration to scare people to actually trying to do something about it that reduces it and makes the process more humane?

Are we allowed to talk about US backed coups now?
    Sure, it’s called blowback.

allowed? should be mandatory in my book.

Well, not sure why static said “allowed.” I’m not sure anyone has ever given permission or had to “allow” a subject to be discussed.

Anywho, the Biden Crime Family’s budget request for immigration related issues in an attempt to have migrants live in a better home country. It’s only an 23 page synopsis provided by the Congressional Research Service but I know it really needs to be in 140 characters or less. I heard Hunter is working on it. Again, if anyone can point me to the repub plan other than “build a wall that Mexico will pay for,” I’m all ears. If we’re “allowed” to, I guess?

It's not just exploitable labor anymore.  Skilled and semiskilled work.  Tons of construction companies have them now.
C’mon, you expect us to believe that every person on a construction site is a documented worker and semi-skilled or skilled ? Even the guy pushing the broom and cleaning up after the skilled trades? You know the guys who pick up scrap wood and shit or walk material from the elevator to the work site within? Or who haul the demo debris to the dumpster or dumpster chute? C’mon man.
Sure.  I only travel the city from job site to job site and see this with my own eyes...

A scaffolding company.  All non English speaking, on Park avenue across from one of my job sites, is a skilled labor job.  It's also a non-union job.  I work on union jobs and they do vetting.  Not everyone gets a book.

Come take a walk with me in Queesnbridge and I'll show you some very interesting construction companies out there rebuilding the projects.

Studies show that immigrants account for 63% of New York’s construction workforce and estimates from The Center for Migration Studies (CMS) suggest that approximately 41% of these workers are undocumented.

    cheaper exploitable labor.
This was my point though, this isn't cheap labor if it's a union job.  Non-union?  I'm sure they abuse the shit out of them.

So, how can you make people hate immigrants even more?  You tell the public that you have to make budget cuts to pay for the influx of migrants coming to your city/state.

It's good that Mayor Adams announced this as to hold the US govt accountable but, it's doing nothing to help the plight of the people whom aren't happy they are here in the first place.

Amazingly enough the migrants on the scooters all have cell phones.  I find this interesting too.
And where exactly can they find a pay phone?  Nowadays cellphones are necessities, not luxuries.  You’re pissed at the immigrants who were sent there by POS republicans.  god, do we really believe people want to walk and walk and walk, etc. with children and the little belongings they have if not for freedom from fear?  What reason other than freedom would you walk for?  Food and shelter for your family?  Yes we all would.  Put yourself in their shoes, their mindset.  We are clueless.

How many of us spent thousands to see Pearl Jam the last couple weeks.  Please don’t be mad about a scooter and phone.
I'm not mad "yet" that they are here.  I'm also not mad about the scooters and phones.  I made a statement that it is amazing that they acquired these things already.  If you've read anything I've written I'm upset that we are setting them up for failure.

I wish NPR would do a story on them next like the Ecuadorian women that sell candy in the subways.

Basically I am reporting on what is happening here and what I see with my own two eyes.

This is mad?  It's good that Mayor Adams announced this as to hold the US govt accountable but, it's doing nothing to help the plight of the people whom aren't happy they are here in the first place.

There’s no immigration problem. NYC is doing just fine. Nothing to see here. 15% budget to agencies across the board? Ppfffffttt. No biggie.

Maybe one day Mayor Adams will try something other than begging the federal government for help. It’s getting old. Also pretty funny how quickly hypocrites change their tune about this issue when a migrant shelter is planned right near them. You have to hear some of these people. Hilarious.

These migrants are coming here with a false sense of hope. I feel terrible for them because no amount of scooters or phones are gonna help them. This city is ruthless and unaffordable to people who have waaaay more at their fingertips than these poor people. I don’t know how this is helping anyone involved. There has to be a better way

The cruelty is lost on some but maybe they prefer they were drowned or shot at the border? And I also guess that most migrants don’t arrive with their life savings in their shoe or bra strap to maybe buy a phone or a scooter, never mind the everyday folks with means, and a heart, who do what they can to give them a shot. I guess churches don’t give aid anymore either?

“A team of CNN journalists made the nearly 70-mile journey by foot in February, interviewing migrants, guides, locals and officials about why so many are taking the risk, braving unforgiving terrain, extortion and violence.”

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/15/americas/darien-gap-migrants-colombia-panama-whole-story-cmd-intl/index.html

I worked with immigration parents and children for 11 years. They want to be here.  They want to work, feed their families, have homes, access to medical care.  Don’t think for one second they didn’t walk across countries because they don’t want to be here.  It’s a piss poor excuse to just wash away the truth.

We don’t really own the land, the country, the air. The lack of empathy and entitlement around here shouldn’t surprise me but it does.

Who sent those immigrants to NY?  Blame them.

Again I see you are taking your own liberties at what people say...

Yes they want to be here but NOT HERE.  They didn't plan on coming to NY.  Nobody thinks they walked here or paid a coyote for no reason... They wanted to get over the border.  Having come here like Nick said is not doing them any favors, I have said this too.

If they want to live 10 people to a room and that's ok with them, fine.  I've seen migrants do that for years.  It used to be to send money back home but now it's the drug and war torn countries that want to be here.

We have extended family in Peru.  One in a wheelchair was robbed of his ipad.  Who does that?  Yeah, i'd want out too.  We as a country need to handle the whole influx situation better.  Just letting people in and figuring it out later is not the way to go about it.

The bolded part of your statement is a mis-characterization. Again, I’ll ask, where and what is the repub plan for addressing the immigration “crisis?” The repubs control the house and thus the purse strings. The Brandon Crime Family submitted a budget with specific funding requests. Where is the repub counter proposal or solution? Or even a debate for the American people to see where the parties stand? What’s Kevy or Maggie Three Names doing about it? Oh yea, authorizing an impeachment inquiry and threatening to shut down the gubmint at the end of the month.

When I taught in LA when the iPhone was new. Most of the teachers had flip phones and most of the kids got the newest iPhone.
Our school was at 98% for reduced/free lunch. Can’t afford food, but got the newest phone and $200 shoes.

Whataboutisms all over.  I don't see anyone doing dick about it at all.  I do see NY scrambling to make room for people.  Why?  It's written into law that we do so.

The dems when they had control did nothing. We know the repubs will do nothing.  It's one big circle...

Did you ever think to go ask those food delivery folks how long they’ve been in NYC and how is it they’re able to afford a cell phone and a scooter or e-bike, seeing how you’re so interested?

Are you pissed at Abbott & Costello and Deathsantis for “doing nothing” or bussing them to NYC? If not, why not?

We can go back and forth all day on this.  I know the repubs do nothing, that is not without question.  The dems giving a dtailed proposal now when they don't have power anymore is playing politics.  "look at what we are trying to do but we can't get it voted in"  Has been happening for years and you still buy into they are trying to do something.  When they had the power they should have rammed as much as they could when they could.  That's the only way Obamacare got passed.

I'll do so next time.  I'll ask a few of them and do interviews as I am quite curious.

Who's not pissed?!?  When they sent people to Marthas vineyard I thought that was absurd.

I don't know why you ask obvious questions to answers you already know and how I get sucked up into answering them...

I really wasn’t taking liberties.  I was however basing it on my experiences, which you’re correct, was no where near New York.  So my apologies.

Moving forward, unless I missed something, I’m not sure i saw a lot of agreement regarding whose fault it is that they’re in NY.  BUT I’m probably wrong so I’ll go back and read thru.

An iPad taken from someone in a wheelchair isn’t far off from the good old USA.  It’s heartbreaking and embarrassing as the human race when crap like that happens

What are the repubs doing, again, other than fear mongering and being scared of being replaced?

FY2022 Budget Request The Biden Administration requested nearly $2.1 billion of foreign assistance for Latin America and the Caribbean for FY2022, which (in current dollars) would have been the largest annual budget allocation for the region in more than a decade. If enacted, total State Department- and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-managed funding for the region would have increased by $279.1 million (15.6%) compared with FY2021. The Administration’s FY2022 budget request also would have provided $38.0 million to the Inter-American Foundation—a small, independent U.S. foreign assistance agency that supports community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Administration asserted that it intended to use the assistance requested for FY2022 to address the socioeconomic effects of the pandemic while continuing to respond to a variety of other challenges in the region. Much of the funding would have supported implementation of the Administration’s four-year, $4.0 billion plan to foster systemic reform and address the root causes of irregular migration from Central America. The FY2022 request included $860.6 million for Central America—a $295.9 million (52.6%) increase compared with FY2021. With regard to other regional priorities, the Administration’s FY2022 request would have provided $453.9 million for Colombia, $187.9 million for Haiti, $116.6 million for Mexico, $66.0 million for the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI), and $55.0 million for Venezuela.

Trends in U.S. Assistance to Latin America and the Caribbean The United States has long been a major contributor of foreign assistance to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Between FY1946 and FY2019, the United States provided $93.8 billion ($194.5 billion in constant 2019 dollars) of assistance to the region.2 U.S. assistance to the region spiked in the early 1960s, following the introduction of President John F. Kennedy’s Alliance for Progress, an anti-poverty initiative that sought to counter Soviet and Cuban influence in the aftermath of Fidel Castro’s 1959 seizure of power in Cuba. After a period of decline, U.S. assistance to the region increased again following the 1979 assumption of power by the leftist Sandinistas in Nicaragua. Throughout the 1980s, the United States provided considerable support to Central American governments battling leftist insurgencies to prevent potential Soviet allies from establishing political or military footholds in the region. U.S. aid flows declined in the mid1990s, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Central American civil conflicts (see Figure 2).

Although U.S. assistance levels for Latin America and the Caribbean have remained elevated over the past two decades compared with the 1990s, the U.S. government has increasingly concentrated those resources in fewer countries and sectors due to significant development progress in much of the region. Between 2002 and 2019, the percentage of people living in poverty in Latin America decreased from 45.3% to 30.5%, due to stronger economic growth and the implementation of more effective social policies.4 Health and education indicators also improved significantly during that period. Some countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay, began to provide assistance to others in the region based on their own development experiences. Trends have reversed in the last decade, however, as countries in the region has struggled to address a series of challenges.5 Socioeconomic conditions began to stagnate in many Latin American and Caribbean countries around 2015 due to a decline in global commodity prices and deteriorated sharply in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic eroded more than a decade of development gains (see “COVID-19 Response”). Political conditions also have deteriorated as Venezuela and Nicaragua have entrenched authoritarian rule and widespread corruption and violence have eroded the quality of democracy elsewhere. These challenges have generated instability, including large-scale migration flows throughout the hemisphere.

Ok let me tell you what happens when they go home.  They don’t eat.  It’s happening right now to the players my husband is coaching.  There’s nothing in the house.  Yes they have cell phones and nice shoes but no food.  Pretty messed up way to live/grow up don’t you think?
Blame the parents, not the child.
I wasn’t blaming the child. And I understand the home life many of them go home to. I was just commenting on a similar situation tempo described. Parents who wouldn’t provide for their kids somehow still affording $800 phone for every kid and the newest shoes every month. I find it ironic to live that lifestyle and claim to be unable to feed the family. But I don’t blame the kids at all.

I know you don’t.  I was just commenting to you for the same reason you commented to tempo, lol.  We could go round and round for days, weeks, months but the bottom line is every president who didn’t fix this issue is to blame. They've been ignoring it for decades.  I believe in legal immigration.  How we get there and stay there is anyones guess.

Yes this has a long list of people to blame, presidents and congress have ignored.

As much as I hate the GOP boarder states actions on this…Why do “sanctuary cities” complain when immigrants are bussed there? Duh. It was oh so politically convenient to claim to be a sanctuary city when you were in the battle.

Again, your own bolded statement is off-base. Democrat Mayor Adams and his administration proposed increasing minimum wage for those food delivery workers you're so curious about. Who's fighting it? The tech industry. But the mayor paid for and received a comprehensive study of how to make their lives better, instead of setting them up for failure as you stated. But I know, bothsidesism, nobody's doing nothing. Its all the same.

I'll also fathom that there isn't a secondary market in NYC for e-bikes or cell phones and that all of those delivery workers are "fresh off the boat" and purchased brandy new e-bikes and cell phones with taxpayer dollars. They couldn't possibly be working a second job to supplement their other work, say in construction or restaurants, right? Nah, lazy fucks want to work two, not just one, of the most dangerous jobs in NYC for the hell of it, right?

    Here's Mayor Adams' report:

A Minimum Pay Rate for App-Based Restaurant Delivery Workers in NYC | November 2022

Here's an article that summarizes it:
