sucks, Speedy. I had my clutch go out on my 06 Cobalt just a few months ago. Ironically, it too was 1200 bucks to fix. It was money that I had been saving up to possibly travel the east coast for the PJ shows. Once I paid the money to get it fixed, I instantly knew I was no longer going to travel after all.

    UGHH!!!!!

I am glad I didnt travel to any shows myself....Mr. mechanic told me $1200.00....And I just said "Go for it"

I seriously considered Indy and Cleveland, and now I am THRILLED I didnt do either of them.

$395 for the box set > $1200 for a car repair

What kind of car/truck is it?

My '98 Olds Cutlass (piece o crap) was in beast mode to get me to the shows (Columbus, Indy, Cleveland, Buffalo)........it knows when there is PJ at stake.

I was going to make a "good thing you aren't dropping $395 on the bootlegs" comment, but others beat me to it.

That sucks, Speedy. It blows when you have an unexpected expense, and that's a large one.

in times like these, you really need to ask yourself....do i really need a transmission? clearly, the answer is no.

    pretty close norm....

personally, i removed the transmission from my car, picked up a longer drive shaft and bolted it directly to the back cluctch.

it's like having a powerglide transmission.

Some dickhead broke into my car a couple months back. They punched out the lock with a screwdriver...

Finally took it in to get fixed (gonna sell the thing next) and it's going to cost $525 to get the door and lock fixed.
    FUCK!

I only had the most basic insurance on it, and of course it doesn't cover this repair!

If I ever find out who did that...!!

Just dropped of my MINI at a Firestone for new run flat tires. $1200!!

So let's see. In the past month I:
    • Went to KC and STL to see Pearl Jam
    • Replaced my garbage disposal
    • Replaced my washing machine
    • Bought crazy expensive tires
    • Bought tickets to two Black Crowes concerts

Fuck owning a house, a car and loving music!!!! ;)

I will be eating a whole lot of Ramen and canned soup for the next six weeks.

By the way, is $1200 like some industry standard for auto repair? Or $800? Seems like those are the two numbers that are always quoted. I should ask my dad if they have a code. Transmission? Oh, that's $1200. Air compressor? Oh, that's $800.

Those are the cheap ones. Actaully it was 1000 something but with tax, mounting, balancing blah blah, etc.

Yes, run flats are expensive. But there is no spare on a MINI so you either use them, or take your chances. After these wear, I am taking my chances.
