Get there really early at like 3 and find the line. Unfortunately you just have to wait. Sometimes they put you into an area like cattle because they don't like all the people standing there. Oh, and people in line can be ruthless when its' time to purchase. In 2008 bf and some guys around me had to help me from getting trampled. Seriously. Good luck. It sucks but persistence and patience pay off.
Just go in with good humor and remember your there to see Pearl Jam. That oughta get ya through.
Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!
2008 was the first time i ever tried for a poster @ MSG. what an experience!
no one has any idea what a nightmare poster-buying is unless they tried @ MSG. it SUCKS! thus why i was disappointed that they didn't have a poster pre-sale. or damn, it would be awesome if when you pick up your 10c tix, you could buy a poster. it is just SO much worse than it needs to be, such a waste of time, etc. but yea....i'll be there. i do NOT want to have to buy one after-market and i don't want to rely on scoring during the eventual 10c sale after all the shows.
i don't remember exactly, but i definitely wasn't online all day. i did miss out on night 1 just b/c i had no idea wtf it was all about, but managed to score night 2, and so did hubby, so we were able to do an even swap with someone who missed out on night 2 and we got night 1. i can't get down to MSG until 5 PM..so i sure as shit hope i can get a poster! anywhere else, it's relatively painless, but my beloved hometown shows...always a nightmare. let's HOPE somehow, these shows are better...and plenty of posters to go around, no horrid pre-show experiences....
WE GOT IN LINE @ 5 FOR BOTH SHOWS LAST TIME AND GOT ONE. DID SAME FOR PHISH AT MSG AND NOT A PROBLEM.
It's pretty funny, lots of anxiety and small talk. People are pretty cool and talk about the night before, setlist...etc. Until.....! - There is any thought of some one jumping line or when the gates open. The 4ft 6 girl who you were hitting on for the last hour will cut your throat if you even think about getting in front of her. Pushing, shoving, cursing..it's on! Like Jeckyl and Hyde when those gates open man.
Get there early and get ready to get squeezed!!!!

the problem with posters and MSG is that they sell them in a place you dont even need a ticket to access. If they just moved the poster sales to inside the venue it would help alot !!!!

Or if they had people pay outside just to make sure they got one, then pick up with a ticket inside... though that would take coordination.

I got both MSG 08 off the website, but I think I really lucked out, alot of people got denied.
CJMST3K - dont think they sold them anywhere inside for PJ. I saw phish there in dec and the only sold them inside the venue.
Or just buy one from the goods section after the tour and save yourself from having to walk around with it or someone stealing it.
+1
Just wait for the 10 Club. The bloodbath 2 years ago put a damper on the show. It was horrible and just for a stupid poster than can be purchased rather cheaply these days.

Do the math in your head.. if you think waiting in line for hours and getting possibly aggreviated, which could change your mood for the show is worth it, then go for it.. plus there is the chance of getting one in the goods section or wait till the frenzy dies down and snag one on ebay.. depends on how much you think those hours are worth? to each their own.. truely... im there to get lost in the music, beer and good people... the piece of heavy card stock could be bought later...

Yeah they weren't sold inside it was just the two merch booths outside. I swear 2008 was a clusterfuck. I'm really not looking forward to it this time around but I kinda do really want a poster so waiting in line for me I guess.
If posters are being sold inside, don't go to the first stand where EVERYONE goes, walk to the next one and there will be no line. Night 1 is a Jeff Soto, night 2 Ames, so I have to believe night 1 will be the crazier of the 2 as far as posters go.
Of course you can just buy here if you can wait a few months...
If I remember correctly, they gave out wristbands last year so you could pick up your poster on the way out. It was definitely a mess on night 2. The first night was well regulated with the event staff letting only a few people through at a time. Seemed like a good system, but they did it totally differently for night 2, and it got out of hand. People were pushing against the merch counter, and this one vendor almost shut the whole thing down.
I retired from poster buying that night. I just don't have the budget or wall space anymore. I'm pretty satisfied with my collection, and the release of the Ames book was a good endpoint.
